Poignant romance in the Eternal City.   Of all the sparkling scenes in director William Wyler's cinematic fairy tale, isn't the one of Audrey giddily savoring her freedom on that scooter, one of the most memorable?

It's not every day that a visiting princess of an unnamed country gets to break out of all the protocols, wind up on the streets of Rome, and get taken under the protective wing of an American reporter, in the form of Gregory Peck...

A frothy delight, with a bittersweet kicker in the end, in the scene where Hepburn and Peck manage to say a very great deal to each other, in a shockingly small number of words...

I've always thought Peck was miscast in this role.  I see William Holden playing the reporter.

Favorite scene:  AH telling her underlings about "duty."

Wow, @kaydee50 -- you should have cast this movie. I hadn't thought about it before, but it's undeniable-- Holden would have been perfect in this!

Not one of my favorites, but a good movie. Westward the Women was on yesterday, now that is one of my favorites.

This is also running now on Screen Pix which we get now since we lost TCM.

@Shelbelle, I've not heard about Screen Pix. Do they only show "classic" films like TCM? Glad to hear you have them as an alternative now!

Yes, we have had it now since we lost TCM on Comcast. It is commercial free and no premium fee for it. There are a few Screen Pix channels with different movies airing. They started airing Roman Holiday over the weekend, so they will run it often for a few weeks.
