I'd never seen this film before, but the biggest thing that struck me about it was that the actors playing the leads were way too old for their roles.  Greer Garson, who may have been a major star, but was in her mid 30's at the time & looked every inch of it.   In the time period the movie is set, she would've been considered a middle aged old maid rather than a young unmarried ingenue.
