9:45 p.m. Eastern--  "Pickup on South Street"  Richard Widmark, Jean Peters, Thelma Ritter, Richard Kiley, Murvyn Vye, Willis Bouchey, Milburn Stone

Forceful, acidic film noir, mixing crime and espionage, directed by the gritty Samuel Fuller.  Richard Widmark is one of my favorite noir actors, and Thelma Ritter gives one of her standout performances in a poignant role.  Not for the faint-hearted.

Oh, no, of course I don't mind answering, @godi !  You are always such a sweetheart.  I found it ages ago and thought what a cute, early vaudeville-looking photo of a child actress, but couldn't pinpoint who it was.  Then, it was identified (I think) as a young Clara Bow, by perhaps either @dooBdoo or possibly @mtc?

Can't believe I'm not remembering for sure if it's Clara Bow, or who the clever poster was who identified her!  But that's my best recollection... if I'm wrong, I hope to be corrected.

Milburn Stone was the doctor I think (or perhaps sheriff?) in some western TV show that went on for years. I can picture him but am too lazy to look up which western.

Hey, thanks for confirming that, @Pearlee --  I wasn't 100% sure, but 'somewhat' sure!

I'm thinking that Milburn Stone was the reassuring doctor on "Gunsmoke",  but again, don't quote me!

@Oznell The doctor on Gunsmoke was the first thing that popped into my mind too when I read his name, but then like you I wasn't certain.

Thelma Ritter is a standout actress.  I love her in Rear Window and also enjoy her in Pillow Talk!!!!  I agree with your comment on Widmark being a Noir actor, he does fit the bill.
