Among the beloved, frequently-seen offerings tomorrow on TCM, I had to single out "Penny Serenade". (Don't think it's been on quite as recently as some others, and it's such a sweet film.)
Poor-but-proud young couple Grant and Dunne are followed-- through their newlywed bliss, sorrow, parenthood, tragedy, disillusionment, and hope. Grant and Dunne don't strike a false note, despite the sudsy nature of the script. And Grant's plea to the judge to take into account a parent's love is one of his most moving moments on film...
Edgar Buchanan is wonderful comic relief as usual, and the casting of the great Beulah Bondi as the kind of sympathetic social worker adoptive parents hope for, is perfect.

Don't forget "The Awful Truth" and "My Favorite Wife" with both Cary Grant and Irene Dunne as well. I have loved all of their movies together and have lost count of the times I have watched and watched and watched.
I saw "Penny Serenade" for the first time in the mid 80's while living in Germany and it appeared on the Armed Forces Network which somehow we were able to get installed on our German television. We were not "military" and I never forgot this movie. Just amazing. The little girl who played their daughter was precious and it is not easy trying to find any information on her. Anyone up for the challenge?

This is a lovely old movie and very sad but heart warming. Cary and Irene were wonderful in this film. He does bring a tear to your eye when he pleas to the judge. It is a must see movie and I have seen it several times. The little girl is just darling.

The little girl was played by Eve Lee Kuney and apparently this might have been her only movie role. Some bios show she is now in her 80's. Interesting.

@Oznell : That’s the trick, isn’t it oznell, being able to sit thru the heart wrench to get to that end? Maybe I can tune in sometime right at that end. The older I get and after having had children and now grandchildren, I’m a real wuss.
Went to see Terms Of Endearement with a friend when it came out. No idea what it was about and just about did me in. Great movie but...🥵
