@Oznell Fascinating interview, even more so for you!

 

There is another one that shows the village where Burton grew up with the mines in the background.  It looks so beautiful, now but a hard life then.

You're so right, @drizzellla --  D i c k was an interviewer extraordinaire, and his subjects usually sensed that, so really good talk was the result!

 

Yeah, @Somertime  and @drizzellla , those Welsh mining valleys come alive in Burton.  It could be an extremely hard punishing life (my grandfather also died of mining-related illness, at a tragically young age).  Therefore it was fascinating to hear Burton present another facet, the romanticized "lords of the underworld" viewpoint.  The pride was palpable.

Loved reading everyone’s comments and thoughts, and @Oznell , about your grandfather. So interesting... Looks like this is one I’ll have to catch next time....
