Deck boss Nick McGlashan died today, at the age of 33, in Nashville, TN.
He was a 7th generation fisherman, and worked on the fishing vessel Summer Bay, and fishing vessel Cape Caution, with Captain "Wild" Bill Wichrowski.
No cause of death has been released at this time.
Nick was known for his wit, sense of humor, and quick fixes on the fly in the engine room.
Nick also battled the demons of addiction to drugs and alcohol, but fought hard to stay sober.
The fishing community in Dutch Harbor, Alaska is like one big family.
They all know each other, and to loose one member, is just devastating.
Fellow crabbers, such as "Wild" Bill, Sig Hansen, the Hillstrands, Kieth Colburn and others, I'm sure are heart-broken.
He will be greatly missed.
Rest in peace, Nick.
Your catch is complete.

OMG this was a shock to read. I've been a Deadliest Catch fan since the first episode years ago.
Captain Bill must be distraught. He loved him like a son. Actually he was closer to Nick than to his own son.
Considering his past history it wouldn't surprise me if it was a drug overdose. I thought he had overcome that demon. I know he has at least 2 young kids but not sure if he ever married his girlfriend.

The toxicology reports are not back yet, so they can't give an official cause of death, but according to TMZ, he was found unresponsive by a friend, at a Holiday Inn just outside of Nashville, and the evidence at the scene, "indicated the possibility of drug involvement".
No! Nick!
You fought so hard to stay clean and sober!
His addiction got so bad, that he was drinking 1/2 gallon of vodka, shooting up with 1 gram of meth, and 2 grams of heroin in a single day, according to TMZ.
How many addicts have we seen on that show?
Elliot Neese, Jake Harris, Freddy, I think, Kieth Colburn, and those are the ones that I remember.
So, it's not unheard of that up there at least, that fishing and addiction go hand in hand.
Several times I have heard that the deckhands spend their money as soon as they get it on drugs/alcohol, women and fast cars/motorcycles.
I think they are chasing that rush, or excitement, that surge of adrenaline.
Plus, being in a tiny, remote place like Dutch Harbor, probably don't help.
This is going to crush Wild Bill.
All I know is, if I were captain of a fishing vessel, I would be doing random drug testing on my crew.
This is just so disappointing.
I had hoped that Nick had learned to stay away from those poisons.
Obviously, he thought that he could handle it.
Unfortunately, that assumption, that mistake, cost him his life.
