"Christmas in Connecticut"/ "The Bishop's Wife" Double Feature TCM!

[ Edited ]

12:15 p.m. Eastern-- "Christmas in Connecticut"--  My favorites, Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan, in the madcap confection set in possibly the most inviting Connecticut country house ever.

Almost too many delights to savor, including the scene where Dennis serenades Stanwyck and she pretends to be decorating the massive Christmas tree.  Cuddly S.Z. Sakall is comic gold as her friend who helps her create an image of domestic bliss...

2:15 p.m. Eastern--   "The Bishop's Wife"--  Preoccupied with ecclesiastical concerns,  Episcopal bishop David Niven neglects his lovely, wistful wife, Loretta Young.  Nothing that can't be fixed by visiting angel, "Dudley", who is wittily played to perfection by Cary Grant, soulful as ever.  This film is both funny and deep-- a great combination.

Fun fact-- Niven and Loretta Young's little daughter in the film is played by the same talented child actress Karolyn Grimes, who was "Zuzu" in "It's a Wonderful Life".

Not bad for a Sunday matinee double feature, huh?

I too love CIC once they get to that farm house. The first part I don't care for.

Sending joy, prayers, love and gentle hugs to all who need them this holiday season.

I love The Bishop's Wife!!  Cary Grant was perfect in that role.

@Oznell I adore you!  You always remind us of the wonderful old movies.  I'm serious, you should compile a list of some of the wonderful old movies you recommend (and a brief synopsis to go along with each movie.

I'd print it off for reference.  Thanks for the reminder.  Just a few months ago my oldest daughter (she's 44) was telling me she and her two teenage daughters watched two of HER favorite old movies.

When she was in college Santa brought her Christmas in Connecticut.  It's sitting (in CD) right on the dining room table, I think I'll ask her if she wants it.

Have a wonderful Christmas or Hanukkah.

We watch The Bishop's Wife every Christmas.  We have it on DVD.  We also watch The Bell's of St. Mary, and Song of Bernadette, along with Year Without a Santa Claus ( and the others), and Charlie Brown Christmas.  We have them all on DVD and enjoy them year after year.  Classics!

Oznell, thank you so much for posting when these wonderful Christmas oldies are on. I watched 'It Happened on 5th Avenue ' twice this year. Loved 'The Shop Around the Corner'. I really appreciate your heads up notices. Love the oldies whether Christmas or other.
