Re: most powerful movie you've ever seen

I'm only going a few years back, but I recall having an emotional reaction when I got to my car after "Twelve Years a Slave".

Maybe not "powerful" in the way the OP means, but "Inception" really left me wired, in a good way, after I saw it.

I was most shaken by the helplessness and frustration of an American stuck in a foreign prison, unable to get released.

I read the book and then later saw the movie -- made me realize that one should never break the law in a foreign country as they definitely don't have the same justice system we have.  It also fascinated me because it took place in Istanbul Turkey which is where I was born.

Wow, I have had brain freeze on the name of the movie.  It stars Kevin Bacon and he goes to escort a fallen soldier home.  It actually shows the process of what the steps are to bring home those killed in action.  One would never imagine the respect our country gives the fallen soldiers to get them home.   Does anyone here know the name of this movie?  I will think of it later.  I am ashamed I have forgotten the name as it should be seen by every American.

i THOUGHT OF IT.....TAKING CHANCE

Taking Chance is a 2009 historical drama film based upon the experiences of Marine Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon), who escorted the body of a fallen Marine, PFC Chance Phelps (posthumously promoted to LCpl), back to his hometown from the Iraq

The most powerful to me is:  The Passion of The ChristHeart

I also would say The Ten Commandments, Steel Magnolias, and Where the Fern Grows are contenders.
