I too enjoyed the show, but I am a superfan of BBT. The only character who didn't seem to fit older Sheldon's description of him is the father. I got the impression that he and Mary had a contentious relationship and that he hit the bottle a lot.

Didn't the father make a comment about having to leave some jobs in the past - some bc of Sheldon's behavior and another bc he had been found to have had alcohol on his breath while coaching kids and had to resign?  Or did I imagine this?

Sheldon is supposed to be 9 or 10 on this show and I think on a recent BBT repeat he was telling someone his father died when he was 14 - it'll be interesting to see if he makes it to mid teens on the show and his dad is still around.  One of those 'hope ppl don't remember or notice this" as often happens in spinoffs.

Think he said he was fired from his coaching job at a bigger school due to his turning in other coachs  for recruiting players.  After that young Sheldon said something about that must be why he drinks so many beers,.I can see how that relationship would change if the drinking increased.

As a fan of "The Big BangTheory" from the first season,  I was delighted to see "Young Sheldon."

Iain Armitage (the young actor playing nine-year-old Sheldon) was a delight and really nailed his character;  I definitely could see the seeds of Adult Sheldon there.

Zoe Perry as Sheldon's mother was wonderful in her role as well.  How fortuitous that Laurie Metcalf's daughter, Zoe, was the perfect age to play Mary Cooper.

The show was funny but also had a sweetness that I hadn't expected.  I love it.

I can't wait untill November to see more.

Iian is excellent in the role.

Knowing Sheldon from Big Bang, however, kind of left out some element of surprise, so to speak, regarding reactions and dialogue.  There were predictable moments.

Not sure if will watch again but it was a comedic break for a change.

I watched the original episode of this show and I thought that it was just ok. Well for some reason over the last few weeks I have viewed several episodes. It's cracking me up.  I guess I just had to give it time.

If anyone is wondering why I am resurrecting this old thread it's simply because I have just read where young sheldon has been picked up for an additional season. I am looking forward to watching.

@icezeus,  I guess it's no surprise since the ratings have been so good, but it's nice to hear there's definitely going to be a season 2! I went looking for the info & read it's the first freshman series to get an early renewal. Thanks for letting us know. I think the show is great. Smiley Happy
