Zoe Perry who portrays Sheldon Cooper's mother on "Young Sheldon" is the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalf who was Sheldon's mother on "Big Bang Theory." That

explains why the younger mother could match the mannerisms and personality of the older mother so convincingly.

She was married to actor Jeff Perry, he has had many TV roles.  Most notably to me, he was Thatcher Grey on Greys Anatomy, Meredith's father.

Yes, I knew that, and they do have similar mannerisms. They did not stick to the character with the casting of Mee Maw though. The one on BBT wasn't anything like the feisty Annie Potts characterization, and the way Sheldon talked about his dad in BBT gave me a completely different impression of him than what he is on YS. I read that they are going to do a spin off from YS of Brother Georgie and his young wife, who will be only one of many wives for him. The character that I really like is Missy. I'd like to see what her story is, because BBT only did one episode with her in it.

I thought I remembered that Missy had some rough times and was pregnant and separated from her husband when she appeared on Big Bang Theory. So not as successful as Georgie or Sheldon.
