Re: Wild story. Curious Case of Natalia Grace on Tonight 9 on ID

Gosh, the 2nd night, dad threw his ex-wife under the bus!  Not sure where the truth lies, but both of them sound like not very nice people, despite their attempts to come off as a shiny happy perfect little family to the outside world.

Whatever has happened, It was wrong  of them to dump Natalia in a strange place among strangers.  She seemed ill prepared to care for herself & had no life skills, plus, being a disabled little person, she can't reach anything in her apt. to do for herself.  And, plopping her in a 2nd floor apt. at the 2nd place with a bunch of steps just to get to the front door was abuse.

If there's an adult care home for little people, perhaps with no male residents, it might be a more appropriate place for her?

It will be interesting to see the finale tonight & maybe, things will become clearer.

Why did the Barnetts' get divorced? Was that b/c of Natalia or something else?

@SilleeMee I'm wondering that too.  In the first episode, the father was blaming Natalia for EVERYTHING that went wrong, including the divorce, but it seems to me that Natalia wasn't even around when they got divorced.  They had pretty much abandoned her and were in Canada with their real children.  The father came back either during or right after the divorce.

I don't think it was one parent or the other; I think it was both of them.  It sounds like the mother abused her, but when he visited her at her 1st apt, he continually called her a liar and was questioning all sorts of stuff.  I can't believe that woman beat her the way he described.  She would've ended up in the hospital after a beating like that.  The mother did pick out those apartments and took her phone away from her when she left her at the 2nd apartment.  Who does that?  If she wanted to erase the Contacts, she could've done that and still left her with a phone.

BTW, I have never heard of the adult version of Child Protective Services.

I believe one of the sons spoke but it is odd that the mom has said nothing. The dad comes on quite strong. I don't know whether or not he's being dishonest and trying to be convincing or what.

@colliemom4  I believe the son that spoke was the eldest one that had been high functioning Aspberger's & doing complex math equations when he was younger & had now regressed after all the trauma.  I never heard the 2 younger sons speak.

@aubnwa01 @It is the elder son that is speaking in the documentary. I just can't figure out if he's the protege or if that's a different son. The genius son is named Jacob Barnett. OK, I checked. Yes, the son in the documentary is Jacob. He was on his way to becoming the youngest astrophysicist in the world. I'm not sure if he's completed his doctorate yet. He has earned his masters and is in the doctoral program in Canada's Perimeter Institute, college for astrophysics. I checked the school's site and he's listed there.IMG_1649.png

Jacob the genius, now sleeping in his dad's basement, is center front in this photo. Remember, he is on the autism spectrum and might have some special needs.

Some on the thread have mentioned that she was not taken to the doctor when the parents suspected precocious puberty or that her age was incorrect. She was seen by specialists twice in 2010, the year she began living with the Barnetts. One of the specialists, Dr. Andy Riggs, was a pediatric endocrinologist. She was also tested again in 2012.

"Although Kristine told the Daily Mail that a bone density test conducted after Natalia’s 2010 adoption pegged her for 14, the probable cause affidavit reviewed by BuzzFeed News stated that Dr. Riggs at the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital estimated that same year that she was approximately 8 years old. (A Dr. Andrew Riggs who worked at the hospital died last week.) Medical records also show that in June 2012, a skeletal survey at that same hospital found Natalia to be around 11 years old, according to the affidavit."

  1. After the trials of the Barnetts, the county prosecutor spoke and said that some evidence came in too late to be admitted at trial. One piece of evidence is that Natalia's Ukrainian birth mother provided a DNA sample which was a match, confirming her as Natalia's biological mother.

Re: Wild story. Curious Case of Natalia Grace on Tonight 9 on ID

My husband swears a second son was introduced into the 2nd episode in the scene where the father was crying hugging him saying he hadn't seen him in years.  The young man he was hugging didn't say anything (that I can remember) he just looked blankly into the camera.

So that wasn't the same kid that looks like his bed is set up in a basement?  I'm so confused.  I thought it was the same kid, my husband says it's another son.  So that would make only 1 son left that we haven't seen or heard from....???

Maybe the movie Orphan  was based  on this true story with alot of fiction.

@skatting44 The movie Orphan is based on a 33 year old adult, Skrlová, a woman who was discovered posing as a 13-year-old boy in Norway.

@Lucky Charm I thought that was Jacob.  He was apparently the only son to have any contact with him after the divorce, unless that scene happened after the taping of all the other stuff.  I really don't care for jumping back and forth in time.

Also, Entertainment Tonight said ID will be airing another special later this summer that is Natalia's side of the story.  It shows her in a wheelchair and she says she's going to give her side just once.

@Mindy D They don't have an updated picture of him?  He looked a whole lot different than that during his interview.
