In case anyone's interested, today TCM is showing 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' at 1:15 this afternoon -
Haven't seen the whole movie for some time, plan to watch today.
Favorite scene is the opening: Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton coming home after dark, Taylor has a cigarette dangling from her mouth, takes off her coat and tosses it on the floor, looks around the house and says,
'What A Dump!'
Love that opening scene!!

I've tried watching this a couple of times. Never got passed 20 or 30 minutes. Not a fan of either of the 2 co-stars.

As much as enjoy anything with Elizabeth T. and Richard B., I cannot watch this movie more than a few minutes.
First time I watched it all the way through and found it disturbing.
Did you enjoy it?

Well, Virgina Wolf was actully a communist. The play was written as a put down on American marriages. Yes, there are some 'challenged marriages' but not all.
Liz plays a hag and Richrd a tolerant and patient monster. Not a good relationship/marriage but then those kind of folks are good for each other.

I love this film.
A cinematic masterpiece.
The acting is sublime. The editing. The cinematography. The screenplay.
Of course the subject matter can be quite disturbing. I've also seen the play and the film compares favorably, for me.

I love the movie, though it does drag on a little too long -
Taylor was fantastic in it, as was Burton's meek character, she even won an Oscar for the movie.
Sandy Dennis also won an Oscar.
Didn't care for all aspects of the story line, love the acting though!

Trivial Oscar Trivia:
One of only 15 films to have received at least one nomination in all four of the acting categories!

It's a great film.
The story and the characters may be difficult to watch at times, but they're part of what makes the film great.

Very intense. I find it fascinating that this acting couple decided to tackle Edward Albee's caustic play. Sandy Dennis was another interesting performer, a true original, gone much too soon.

I found it interesting that Taylor would gain 20 pounds for a screen role, allow herself to be made up to look years older, and actually act like a shrew in some scenes!
She was so stunningly beautiful and one of the greats.
