They have remade "West Side Story", and it will be released this December.
I know! I know!
The original is a classic!
Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno!
No one can perform as well as they did!
I 100% agree!
When my parents were dating, they saw "West Side Story", and every time that it was on tv, we watched it.
I grew up watching the original.
To me, Natalie Wood is Maria.
Rita Moreno is Anita.
No one else can duplicate those roles!
But!!!!
The new version is directed by Steven Spielberg, so I'll give it a chance.

I love West Side Story and I had a huge crush on George Chakiris. However I never automatically assume the remake will be an inferior product. I look forward to the new version.

And I won't.

I am excited to watch it. I have never seen the original. I know, that is so wrong.

For me, remakes are not as good as the originals but since Spielberg is involved, I will check West Side Story out. I do have a feeling, however, I will not be impressed.

I just saw the full cast list of "West Side Story" 2021 version, and Rita Moreno is in it.
She plays a character named Valentina.
Okay. I'm sold!
I'll go see it!☺

In March, 2020 (right before Broadway shut down) we saw the latest version of West Side Story. The story was modernized and while I didn't love all aspects of it, the music was still wonderful. They update shows and movies to attract a new audience.
I have to admit, I preferred the original stage version to the original, blockbuster movie. I've read a lot about the upcoming movie. Unlike the original movie, the actors and actresses will do their own singing. The biggest problem with the original movie (for me) was the dubbing of Natalie Wood's singing. I look forward to seeing the new movie.

My first husband and I began dating when the original was released. And yes, we saw it on one of our dates.
Memories of him and my youth are inextricably bound in that film. We ended tragically, too. With his betrayal and then a divorce.
[He serenaded me beneath my dorm window with some of the songs from this smash hit.]

I hate remakes. Why remake a classic? A masterpiece. It's sacrilege.
