Watching some of the new season's TV shows feel like work...

It seems like a lot of shows now seem like work to watch.  I get lost in the plots and am trying to figure them out.  I like just watching and relaxing as I watch the show.  How to get away with murder is one of them.  I feel like I am going to miss something and be totally lost.  The new show Quantico feels the same.  I record them but feel like I have to be in just the right state of mind to watch them.

I feel the same way and was just thinking that last night while trying to watch Quantico! The first time I watched it I thought it had potential but then like you said so well, its just too much work and concentration. Ditto for How to get away with Murder.

If I have to pay attention every single moment to try to figure out (or not) what is going on, then its no longer enjoyable to watch. I get bored and lose interest.

It seems many of the new shows are using that fast camera, fast scene, fast talking method, trying to look like "reality" and I can't follow it all.

I don't like the tv shows now.  I feel like the actors look like actors and not real people.  They don't look real, but fake and botoxed.  I tried to watch Quantico, but couldn't get past all the beautiful agents.  This isn't reality,  I also feel as though the dialogue is dumbed down for the American public.  I have watched British programs for many years.  I feel the dialogue is better and the actors far superior to the Amercans.  I do like some of our cable shows.  They seem to be better written and acted.

This thread is so reassuring.  I was thinking it's my brain slowing down along with my eyesight.  I just can't follow all of what goes on --and if I've missed a show or two at the beginning of a season, it seems not worth trying to catch up.

Fortunately I still like to read, so I do far more reading than I do watching.

That's how I felt last season about Blacklist, so I quit watching it.  Anything that requires too much concentration and not enough enjoyment doesn't work for me!

I agree with all of the comments made .... another new show is Dr Ken .... it's supposed to be a comedy ... he  supposedly was a doctor and now is a comedian/ actor ... I do not find the show to be funny at all ... another " flop" for ABC!!! ..... I never liked "How to get away with murder" ... to me it's a very " dark" show"..... same with Quantico, I liked the first two shows but, now I am turned off ..... I guess I'll watch more QVC!!!!!!

I am enjoying these new types of shows immensely and find them far more satisfying than mind-numbing sitcoms and the brain candy that is reality television.  The shows do required undivided attention, though, and are not shows that can be watched while doing other things or conversing with other people.

I recognize that not everyone likes them, but the great thing about televison today, is thaet in addition to scores of channels, we have streamign services -- plus we have the standby of reading and other activities.

This is how I felt about JIm Gaffigan's tv show.  He is incredibly funny in his standup, but this show is just NOT FUNNY.

So sad.

Re: Watching some of the new season's TV shows feel like work...

Wow!  I feel exactly like the first two posters!  I cannot understand why they put all of the same shows everyone wants to watch on at the same time.

That means I have to DVR one of them or just wait and watch the On Demand.  This gets really old.  I feel like I'm in high school preparing for a test.  I have to (like you guys said) be in the mood to watch one of the shows, I have to make sure I don't miss a show before another one comes back on because then I'll get behind and won't know what's going on.

Before I know it, the second show is on and I can't just pick up and watch it because the pilot sets up the second on and says who's who.  I know enough from having it shown over and over that someone on Quantico is supposed to be a 'terrorist'.  Now I figure I need to see the pilot or I'll never figure it out.

Phew!  This TV viewing has become a job!  I STILL haven't watched the pilot of Quantico but I don't have time.  I'm still trying to get caught up to The Muppets.  If I don't see the first Muppets, I won't know why Piggy and Kermit broke up!

It's a good thing Winter is coming because I'm going to have to lock myself in the house to get all of my TV viewing done.......

Oh!  No!  I just thought of something, Legend is coming back on, Game of Thrones......where's that TV Guide....where's my red marker.....??

Re: Watching some of the new season's TV shows feel like work...

Sometimes I like mind numbing drivel.  I want to be able to plop down on the couch and watch something that takes no brain power to follow.  I am that way with books too.

I like some of the shows that require a lot of thought but I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch them.  I have to know I have the time to devote to watching, that I'm not going to get interrupted and that I have nothing else to do while I'm watching the program.
