I found it on youtube about 15 years ago and it brought me back to the excitement of watching the Texas State pageant then Miss America with my grandparents.  I always spent the night and we our picks.

 I lived it and hated it even at the time.  I tried it for a couple years, then long before it was over cut off the perm and ditched the fake nails.

 

And yes, women weren't any better off then than now--valued for appearance only now to be famous they're mostly without clothes on.  To me this is shocking.  

 

But then it was shocking to me to see Taylor Swift person of the year.   I guess I never did get it.  I actually thought women might climb up the ladder to just be taken as people some day.

I will assume she didnt make top 10 at Miss America because of her behind closed door interview.  or who knows...she could have been # 11 Smiley Happy
