Telegenic angst amid the oil gushers, and oh, those swirling leaves:

@Oznell  I don't know. Dorothy Malone always has a maneater look on her face to me. Something about her turns me off. Great looks, it's just that one look she gets at times. Loved her in the bookstore with the glasses and hair in a bun I think. Then she took off the specs and let her hair down and I didn't like her as well, lol. Call me crazy, but that's all I've got.Woman Frustrated

As a glasses wearing bookworm, I loved that scene in “The Big Sleep”; also Bogie’s scene in the other bookstore dropping his glasses down and saying “hmm” .

For me though, Dorothy Malone will always be Constance McKenzie on Peyton Place. (I have 4 seasons on dvd! Wish they would release the rest)

@Group 5 minus 1 Yes - I remember him in The Name of the Game!  Another great old 60's show not available on DVD.

At 2:15 AM (Eastern) TCM is showing The Last Voyage with R Stack and Dorothy Malone. It's like a 1950's version of The Poseidon Adventure.   RS and DM are married, the ship is sinking and DM is trapped.  I won't give away the end, in case anyone hasn't seen it.

Seeing this thread title really brought back memories from the days when I lived in North Carolina and learned of the story behind this movie.   This film had its origin in the tragic true events surrounding the 1920s-1930s actress and "torch singer" Libby Holman, and Zachary Smith Reynolds (heir to the R.J. Reynolds tobacco fortune).   It's based on Robert Wilder's novel which was a slightly altered retelling of this scandal.   When I lived in the Winston-Salem area, I found the Reynolda House to be a haunting place to visit, the details of the death always shrouded in mystery.   I'm wary of posting links, but anyone interested will find numerous accounts of this highly-publicized 1930s murder.

Great info, @dooBdoo!  I had vaguely heard that it was based on that, but was fuzzy on details.  I've always been interested in both Ruth Etting and Libby Holman, a pair of torch singers whose back stories are riveting...

It was interesting to me that the story still was "alive" in the whisperings in the W-S area, even after so many years had elapsed.   At the time, though, the Reynolda House (Museum of Art) tours skirted the issue (they didn't show the room in which he died).   As a side note, I just got a new cable line-up so I'm gleeful to have TCM again!   I really did miss that channel, and the threads here kept reminding me of how much I enjoyed having it.

Will be watching. One of her best roles if not her best. Husband and I are watching Tension at Table Rock. One of her earlier movies. Western movie of course.

Spoiler
I found it odd that she lied after all.  He didn't commit suicide.  It was an accident.  Was this similar to the book?

ETA:  Above is an actual spoiler.  I didn't mistake the icon for a happy face.  Woman LOL  Anyone know the answer?

Robert Stack's performance was brilliant.  He should have won as well.  His physicality, especially in the brief portion when he was beginning his lurch down the stairs, was wonderful.

I expect some of the tv series Dallas was an homage to films such as Written on the Wind.

[was Homegirl] Love to be home . . . thus the screen name. Joined 2003.
