10:00 p.m. Eastern TCM-- "Picnic".
"William Holden Month" winds up with several of his most notable films, including my personal favorite, "Picnic". (And thanks to @Big Joanie for the reminder...)
This filming of William Inge's play is memorable for its acute understanding of middle America. I love the way Inge penetrates the lives of these Kansas characters, and the movie's gorgeous cinematography aids in the mission.
Unforgettables: Rosalind Russell's restless schoolteacher; Arthur O'Connell; a young wide-eyed Susan Strasberg; Holden and Kim Novak falling in love in a hurry; and of course, "Moonglow"--

You can have all the explicit 'love' scenes, this scene is tops when it comes to seduction.

Yes, this is a well cast movie. I'm disappointed Network wasn't on (or did I miss it???). I think WH was great in that movie.

@Sweet_Serenity, I adore Susan Strasberg. To me, with that delicate, sort of "Bambi" quality she had, she was the quintessential Fifties "intelligent ingenue". Daughter of theater royalty, Lee and Paula Strasberg. She died much too soon, was a sensitive, one-of-a-kind actress and person....

@kaydee50, I could be wrong, but I think they might have shown it at the beginning of the month...
