New season of  "Call the Midwife"----PBS  8 PM ET

Toss up at 10 PM ET---"American Crime" ABC, "Shades of Blue"NBC and "Feud" FX-----tape two and watch one! ( "American Crime" isn't as compelling this season in my opinion as it as been the past two seasons.)

Thanks again to yellow919 for the alert on this.  One of Hitchcock's best, and on my short list of greatest American films.

Rock-solid American family in small town Santa Rosa, California, welcomes wandering, enigmatic uncle for a visit.  Teenage daughter "Charley" is his namesake and feels a keen sympathy for her uncle.

Problem.  He is outwardly a cosmopolitan charmer, but inwardly a sociopathic killer.

Truly great performances by the gradually wised-up Teresa Wright, (Charley), Patricia Collinge (as the mother), Joseph Cotten (Uncle Charlie).  Wonderful character actors up and down the film.

A modest, enjoyably quirky all-American family, and an idyllic town, unwittingly brush up against a truly chilling and memorable evil.
