Uhuru (Nichelle Nichols) Diagnosed With Dementia

According to the NY Post, actress Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhuru on the original Star Trek, has been diagnosed with dementia.  "Nichelle Nichols, best known for playing Lieutenant Uhura in “Star Trek,” has been diagnosed with dementia."

I recommend going online to read the article, because there are photos of her from Star Trek and now, and she is still very beautiful at age 85 (and doesn't look much different except for hair color).

I watched the original Star Trek and always liked her character.

@Pearlee- thanks for posting and I am so sorry to hear that.  She was on the Young and the Restless not too long ago I think as Neil Winters mother one of the main characters.  Still beautiful I agree.  Loved her in Star trek.

Beautiful then, beautiful now.  She had quite a role as a woman of color back in the 60's. An officer on the bridge crew of a "flagship" starship. Right up there with the men.  Forward thinking show and a role model for all young girls everywhere.  I wish her well.

Sad to know of anyone with that horrible disease. My oldest brother passed away from it a couple years ago.

@candys mine   I'm glad you posted your comments. That's exactly what I was thinking when I read yesterday's news. You articulated my thoughts - that I didn't post - extremely well.   She really did have quite a groundbreaking role for the times back then.
