In the July interview with TMZ Alex Trebek mentioned that Alex Faust, a Los Angeles Kings  hockey play-by-play telecaster would be perfect for trivia games and suggested that Faust would make a good successor.

That interview was in July of 2018 when he spoke about possibly retiring. He has since been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, and has said that he plans to honor his three-year contract. I hope that Mr. Trebek will be successful in doing just that.
