Re: The Waltons

[ Edited ]

@mom2four0418 , I love this back story!

I loved the early seasons, too, and there were many tears shed and heartstrings pulled with the stories told Heart

Some trivia:

Six months before their characters met on TV, Jon Walmsley (Jason) married Lisa Harrison (Antionette) in the summer of 1979. According to a People Magazine story from the time, they had an outdoor ceremony in Malibu, California.

The whole cast of The Waltons was in attendance. Ralph Waite, who played Walton family patriarch, John, officiated his TV son’s ceremony. Not to be outdone, Michael Learned (mother of the Walton clan, Olivia) hosted the reception at her own home!

I love reading stories about The Waltons. I recently read how Will Geer "likely" saved Ellen Corby's life . . .

Ellen Corby suffered a stroke in November 1976. According to Michael Learned, who played Olivia Walton, Will Geer may have saved her life. When she failed to show up for work, Geer immediately suspected something was wrong as Corby was a true professional who was never late. So Geer went with the show's producers to her home, where they found Ellen on the floor, unconscious. She'd suffered a stroke and Geer immediately got her medical help. Ellen eventually recovered and returned to her role on "The Waltons" in 1978.

His daughter also made two guest appearances on the show . . .

Geer  had three kids — Kate, Thad and Ellen. Kate married Larry Linville of M*A*S*H fame. Ellen made two appearances on The Waltons.

Ellen Geer first appears in the early episode "The Ceremony." The story centers around a family of Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany who settled on Walton's Mountain. They hide their faith in fear, until Grandpa Walton points out the importance of remaining true to who you are. Ellen Geer portrays the mother, Eva Mann. (left photo)

In 1980, during the final season, Ellen turned up in the episode "The Pledge." This time she was playing Ronie Cotter, a character who had appeared in the prior season with a different actress, Janette Lane Bradbury, in the role. (right photo)

After five seasons ....Richard Thomas left the Waltons to pursue other interests he did however..return to the role in three Walton TV movies.  The  first one was a Walton Thanksgiving reunion 1993...

john boy was also featured as a "guest" in season six. richard thomas came back for two episodes.

it was the last season that the originals all appeared.  will geers last episode was the last episode of season six and ellen corby was back from "the hospital" when season six ended.

when season seven began, will geer had passed away and ellen corby was on very sporadically after that.

seasons 8 and 9 feature the not as popular "new john boy." the "new john boy appeared in one of the waltons movies also....."a day of thanks on waltons mountain."

i watch this almost daily......either at night or during the day. even if i am not necessarily paying attention, it is on. have watched all the waltons movies also.

I love the Waltons but also love the original.  Just watched my VHS copy about a week ago.  Spencer's Mountain, Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara.

I really liked that they incorporated Ellen Corby's post-stroke problems into the show.

And Corabeth -- what a hoot! How could you not like her? She added an unexpected element, and yet could be very tender and loving.

Really surprised that "Jason" and "Toni" were married in real life!

And yep, the Baldwin Sisters and papa's recipe!
