@mom2four0418 , I love this back story!
I loved the early seasons, too, and there were many tears shed and heartstrings pulled with the stories told .

Some trivia:
Six months before their characters met on TV, Jon Walmsley (Jason) married Lisa Harrison (Antionette) in the summer of 1979. According to a People Magazine story from the time, they had an outdoor ceremony in Malibu, California.
The whole cast of The Waltons was in attendance. Ralph Waite, who played Walton family patriarch, John, officiated his TV son’s ceremony. Not to be outdone, Michael Learned (mother of the Walton clan, Olivia) hosted the reception at her own home!

I love reading stories about The Waltons. I recently read how Will Geer "likely" saved Ellen Corby's life . . .
Ellen Corby suffered a stroke in November 1976. According to Michael Learned, who played Olivia Walton, Will Geer may have saved her life. When she failed to show up for work, Geer immediately suspected something was wrong as Corby was a true professional who was never late. So Geer went with the show's producers to her home, where they found Ellen on the floor, unconscious. She'd suffered a stroke and Geer immediately got her medical help. Ellen eventually recovered and returned to her role on "The Waltons" in 1978.
His daughter also made two guest appearances on the show . . .
Geer had three kids — Kate, Thad and Ellen. Kate married Larry Linville of M*A*S*H fame. Ellen made two appearances on The Waltons.
Ellen Geer first appears in the early episode "The Ceremony." The story centers around a family of Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany who settled on Walton's Mountain. They hide their faith in fear, until Grandpa Walton points out the importance of remaining true to who you are. Ellen Geer portrays the mother, Eva Mann. (left photo)
In 1980, during the final season, Ellen turned up in the episode "The Pledge." This time she was playing Ronie Cotter, a character who had appeared in the prior season with a different actress, Janette Lane Bradbury, in the role. (right photo)

@TVLand wrote:After five seasons ....Richard Thomas left the Waltons to pursue other interests he did however..return to the role in three Walton TV movies. The first one was a Walton Thanksgiving reunion 1993...
john boy was also featured as a "guest" in season six. richard thomas came back for two episodes.
it was the last season that the originals all appeared. will geers last episode was the last episode of season six and ellen corby was back from "the hospital" when season six ended.
when season seven began, will geer had passed away and ellen corby was on very sporadically after that.
seasons 8 and 9 feature the not as popular "new john boy." the "new john boy appeared in one of the waltons movies also....."a day of thanks on waltons mountain."
i watch this almost daily......either at night or during the day. even if i am not necessarily paying attention, it is on. have watched all the waltons movies also.

How many Walton reunion movies were there, & in what year(s) did they first come out?
@tace28 There were 6 reunion movies.
1. A Wedding on Walton's Mountain (1982)
Erin Walton is considering marrying her boyfriend Paul but her old boyfriend Ashley, who left for the war and married someone else, lived through his wife's death and would like to get Erin back, but Paul is not going to give her up so easily. Also Mary Ellen's boyfriend Jonesy who's a veterinarian is trying to establish a practice but everybody doesn't think he is competent. And Ben who has been minding the lumber business while their father's with their ailing mother in Arizona is having some problems and everybody's worried that he's digging himself a hole that he might not get out of.
2. Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain (1982)
Mary Ellen marries Jonesy but they don't exactly have a good start. While on their honeymoon, she suffers an accident that leaves her unable to bear children. She then shuts everyone, even Jonesy out. She then decides to go to the one person who could understand what she's going through, her mother, who is in Arizona recuperating.
3. A Day for Thanks on Walton's Mountain (1982)
Most of the Waltons have split up in the days approaching Thanksgiving 1947. But most of the family begins to arrive at Walton's Mountain starting with John-Boy recovering from a case of writers block in New York followed by Jason now a struggling musician as well as John Walton whom tries to get everyone together for the special event for Elizabeth, while newlyweds Erin and Paul plan to move out of the Walton homestead.
4. A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion (1993)
In November 1963, the Walton siblings and their families return to Walton's Mountain for Thanksgiving, including John-Boy and his new fiancée Janet. Several days later, they receive tragic news that President Kennedy had been assassinated.
5. A Walton Wedding (1995)
In 1964, John-Boy Walton is planning his wedding to Janet Gilchrist, the editor of a New York fashion magazine and the daughter of a diplomat. The two of them plan a small wedding and he invites the family and friends from Walton's Mountain to come to New York for the celebration. However, Janet's Aunt Flo has other ideas and begins to take over their wedding preparations.
6. A Walton Easter (1997)
In 1969, John-Boy is a TV news anchorperson in New York and he is in the throes of writing a new book. He and a very pregnant Janet are making plans to return to Walton's Mountain for the celebration of John and Olivia's 40th wedding anniversary. Accompanying them to see the place John-Boy lived as a child is Aurora, a Time magazine photographer, who is doing a story on John-Boy. Meanwhile, Elizabeth arrives back from her travels and announces to Drew, who is still working at the mill with Ben, that she is back to stay. She is very upset to find that Drew did not wait for her, and that he has a new girlfriend. Also, problems arise for John-Boy and Janet because the longer John-Boy stays on the mountain, the more he becomes convinced that he would like to settle down there, raise his family, and continue with his writing whereas Janet wants to stay in New York.

I love the Waltons but also love the original. Just watched my VHS copy about a week ago. Spencer's Mountain, Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara.

I really liked that they incorporated Ellen Corby's post-stroke problems into the show.
And Corabeth -- what a hoot! How could you not like her? She added an unexpected element, and yet could be very tender and loving.
Really surprised that "Jason" and "Toni" were married in real life!
And yep, the Baldwin Sisters and papa's recipe!
