The lead singer of this group - Mark Valmon passed away today - he was 78.  If you were a teenager, like me, in the 1960's, you'll remember their music - Happy Together, She'd Rather Be With Me, Elenore, among others.  Loved those songs. Seems like just yesterday I was listening to them on the radio and on Ed Sullivan show.  RIP.

Oh, my goodness, @twinsister -- I'm sorry, I didn't see your thread before I posted!  I will ask the mods to remove mine.

You're so right, they were a wonderful group of that time, so musically catchy and fun.

That's too bad.  We've been to the Happy Together show a few times, which was his brain child. I wonder what will happen to the tour now?

@Oznell - that is OK.  Multiple threads on these topics happen often.  No problem.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mark Valmon.  The Turtles were among the great groups of the time and Happy Together will live on and we will sing along.  May Mark rest in peace.

Re: The Turtles Singing Group

Sad news to hear.  The Turtles drummer Johnny Barbata passed away March 8, 2024 in Ada Oklahoma. He was famous for twirling his drumsticks and his excellent playing.

He also played on some Crosby Stills Nash and Young songs, on the protest song "Ohio" and was a drummer with Jefferson Airplane  and Jefferson Starship.  Additionally he was also famous as a studio musician and played on a wide range of recordings.

He lived south of Oklahoma City for many years and I had the pleasure of meeting him a number of times and hearing him play in local venues.  Nice man and great musician.

Re: The Turtles Singing Group

Oh no.  I have a CD of theirs, with "Happy Together" on it.  Love to play it.
