So the movie Love Story (1970) was on last night, and I came across it when it was already half over. So I watched the last hour. I had not seen it in a long time. I had always thought that the character Jennifer (Ali MacGrawl) was a biotch. I still think that, and frankly don't know what his character saw in her. Ryan O'Neal was, of course, very handsome and appealing. Overall I just don't think it was that great of a movie. I must be missing something, because I thought the movie was a big deal when it came out.

My take on this movie was that it was the 70's and the height of women's lib and they were trying to show a different kind of love story. I think that Ryan O'Neal's character found Jenny's honesty and directness refreshing. She is the one that picked him up and supported him through law school. This movie has grown on me over the years. It wasn't the conventional love story you see all the time.

@Puppy Lips Agree. So predictable and Ali is not an actress. It was a "big deal" when the book and then the movie came out. And the music wasn't any better. Some things don't age well!!

This movie was huge from what I remember back in the day. I concur that Ali McGraw is not a stellar actress. I have had no desire to re-watch it! Once was enough.

We watched it on TV years after it came out. I thought it was dumb, smarmy and sappy. Ali McGraw couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, at least in this one. Never saw her in anything else.

I saw that movie when it first came out. I thought it was a dud of a movie.

My thought, even when we saw it when it came out: Gag! ![]()

I detested that movie but sat through it twice with dates that I assume thought I'd be pleased 😏
Ali is beautiful now -- regal looking.

Ali made her debut the year before in Goodbye Columbus, playing the very spoiled Jewish American Princess, as her type was referred to. She was quite convincing in that role. She was married to movie producer Robert Evans at the time and so she got into the movie acting biz very easily.

I was a 15 year old in an all girl high school when I saw this movie. My friends and I walked out of the theater and cried in the street waiting for our parents to pick us up. Drama queens.
I saw it only for the 2nd time a few months ago on one of the cable channels. As I sat thru it, I thought "Whhaaattttt??".
