@SeaMaiden  I am not sure what it has to do with my post.  We are talking about JFK Jr. on this thread.  He flunked it twice; not so sure all those other did that!

It amazes me that Joh Kennedy, Jr. would be lumped into the same critique of "the entitled" Kennedy children with drugs, etc.  The Kennedy children involved with drugs, lawsuits, ot of control behavior were Ethel Kennedy's boys, Jean Kennedy's son William and Patrick Kennedy who has acknowledged his problems and has sought help.

The worst thing for John Kennedy was poor grades at Brown, what Mother wouldn't make an effort to keep him in school and taking the NYS Bar exam, twice which is extremely hard and most people have to take it a second time and there is no shame in that.  Oh my heavens, how awful!  Oh my heavens, how entitled!!!!  You have to be kidding.  He was raised very differently as was Caroline from his other cousins and it showed.  To lump him with the other troubled Kennedy's is unfair and unwarranted.

@Somertime   Well my mother certainly wouldn't have.  She taught me to be ethical and earn what I get on my own merits.  This thinking leads me to believe you think that what Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman and all those other people involved in the recent college scandals is perfectly OK.   If John was flunking out of Brown, and more than once according to the documentary, IMO it is NOT OK for Jackie to use her influence (name and money) to keep him in the university.  Not if he was flunking and didn't deserve to be in.  Perhaps if he had had to actually earn his grades to stay in, he wouldn't have flunked the NY Bar Exam twice.  He would have had to learn to buckle down and learn the stuff by studying, not by mommy intervening on his behalf.

Re: The Last Days of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

@Pearlee It's amazing how much you have read into my post and your assumptions are way off base and judgemental of me who you do not know.

My brother was flunking out due to his goofing off.  My mother went up to school and had a discussion as to what could be done to keep him from being kicked out.  He was put on probation for one semester and if there was no improvement he would not be allowed to return.  My mother was not a woman of influence, nor were we of the privledged class.  There were no bribes, no monies exchanged hands, no threats of any kind. My brother agreed to the terms, straightened up and graduated with a degree.

It has been stated that John suffered from dyslexia throughout school.  I do not know what influence Jackie used for Brown but apprently you do.

Something like only 25% pass the bar exam the first time.  This particular "flunk" isn't indicative of being a bad or lazy student.

@Tinkrbl44   Please cite your source for that 25% statistic, because I don't think it's correct, or even near being correct.

@Pearlee   It shows that he was not stupid OR lazy or entitled.  Perhaps he just needed more time as far as flunking out of University.....Perhaps learning did not come easy for him....as it did not come easy for me either.  So what if his Mother helped him stay in school and graduate.....Yes he was a Kennedy, but also just human and far from perfect.  Many people  fail the bar exams...take it several times.

Re: The Last Days of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

I hope I don't offend folks when I say I think maybe we are losing perspective of the documentary itself.

It was a lovely yet searing look into two people's lives that clearly were cut short way too soon.

The producer of the documentary was a life long friend of John and clearly wanted to speak his truth both for John but also and maybe more importantly Caroline as she has been dragged hard after her death.

I don't know what actually happened between them especially on that evening and goodness knows the speculation has been through the roof but I found the documentary to be his attempt to show a young couple in love that just wanted to have a loving wedding out of the eye of the public and that is what I saw.  To be honest, that footage broke my heart.

Imagine your life in a fishbowl with cameras following you 24/7.  I think Jackie did a wonderful job of raising both Caroline and John and it's a shame she wasn't there to shepherd John's wife through the masses that greeted them every day even if they stepped out to grab a bagel.

Watching the preparations that everyone had to go through so they could have a peaceful moment to commit to each other was exhausting.  I can't imagine what it would be like to live that life.

I wasn’t aware of the documentary. In reading an article online I learned that Lauren Bessette was a twin, which made it a little sadder to me.

@Tinkrbl44   Do you have that source yet where you got the "like only 25% pass the bar exam the first time."?  I really think that statistic is not a fact and would like to see where you got that.

Re: The Last Days of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

@Pearlee

Online at lawschool1 it says that in 2017 the pass rate for first time takers was from 58.31 % (California) to 86.9% (Oklahoma)

I do not know it the test was harder when John took it.

Where did people see that he had a true identification of being dyslexic? I saw his father did but not him for sure.  I think he had a tough life being in the public eye and yet he really seemed to like it at times. Part of me felt like his true friends would have let him rest in peace now that he finally has some privacy.
