I'm sure those ovens were calibrated, so the temp was ok. It was the bakers who weren't up to snuff
It was a contest ,so the ovens would have to all have the same readings to make it fair
Judging by what I saw, I think the Brits were better bakers. They baked under the same conditions

I love the whole tent-outside thing the British show had going. Who but the English would decide to cook outside when rain may happen at any moment. I agree that many baked goods are unfamiliar and not really all that appetizing looking, however, that's what made the show so fun to watch. I also liked the cultural diversity represented by the contestants. They're all very British though, aren't they?
I'm looking forward to seeing the American version, although so many good ideas from abroad lose their oomph once they come here. We'll see.

I watched last year and the only thing I liked about it was Mary.
