I watched the first season of The Diplomat and loved it. I intend to watch the second season soon. The TV Weekly November 24-December 7, 2024 issue, in the Ask Matt Roush Q&A section, this was said, which may be of interest to some of you.

Question: I just completed Season 2 of The Diplomat on Netflix. Other than the reduced episode count of six instead of eight that Season 1 offered, I loved it.

Season 3 has already been greenlit by Netflix, but I've read that it isn't likely to arrive until the first half of 2026! Do you know why it takes so long for streaming platforms to produce 6-8 episodes of television? I realize we experienced COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, and then the dual writers' and actors' strikes in 2023.

Answer: It is a fair question, but one that's hard to answer, because each show works on its own timetable, and with most streaming series, especially on Netflix, an entire season must be written, filmed, and completed before it can air.

The long lapse between Season 1 and 2 was ascribed in at least one interview with the show's creator as being a matter of exhaustion, and there's also a matter of scheduling people with busy careers when production is of such a limited duration. If someone is contracted to a longer TV season, it's a different story.

Until Netflix announces an official release date, I'll stay hopeful we'll get the third season sometime in 2025, because the Season 2 cliffhanger was bananas, and I want more!

Interesting; thanks.  I do find the length of times between the seasons of streaming series to be problematic, especially when the story line carries over. I certainly agree about that cliffhanger!

It's on Netflix.   Story line about married woman diplomat.   Very good.

The time between seasons frustrates me about aot of streaming shows.  That and the number of episodes.  Often just sux or right and we have to wait for two years or longer.  I watch aot of British TV and it's like that.  I'm almost 100% certain The Diplomat will get a season three but we'll probably have to wait at least until 2026 but I'll take qualify over quantity.

Hm. That's a long time in between. I thought first season was great. Season two felt not as nuanced. I have only watched it once. I will watch it again and see if I change my opinion. I will watch season three whenever it comes out.

Yesterday I finally sat down and binge-watched Season 2. WOW! What an ending! I didn't see that coming. Although I know it has been renewed and it probably won't be back soon, but I am very eager to see how they turns out.
