Oh, agreed, @Johnnyeager,  Celeste Holm is so good-- smart, rueful, witty,  and you are right, June Havoc in a small role makes a real impression.  The first time I saw her in this I wanted to see more.  She had a relatively quiet movie career, although she did lots of things outside of film....

I guess this was for last Tuesday!  I looked for her movies and found lots of Gary Cooper.  Wasn't Dorothy McGuire the mother in Peyton Pkace?

While Dorothy played her share of mother roles, Constance MacKenzie was played by Lana Turner in the original Peyton Place.

 

In Return to Peyton Place it was Eleanor Parker.

 

In the TV series Peyton Place Constance was played by Dorothy Malone (maybe that's who you're thinking of!)
