Here's the schedule:

Highlights:
12:00 noon Eastern: "The Enchanted Cottage". Dorothy McGuire, Robert Young
Poignant tale of how two people, scorned for their outward appearances, find love and their true beauty in a hideaway cottage. A beloved classic.
2:00 p.m. Eastern-- "Gentleman's Agreement. Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, Celeste Holm, John Garfield
Explosive-for-its-time expose of post-war overt and undercover anti-Semitism. Gregeory Peck is a writer posing as a Jew to document instances of prejudice, and is stunned to find that even his relationship with his rather conventional fiancee (McGuire), is affected. Boffo supporting performances by Celeste Holm and a smoldering John Garfield...
10:15 p.m. Eastern-- "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn". Peggy Ann Garner, Dorothy McGuire, James Dunn.
@antiquarianand I were just talking about this gem! Luminous story of family life in impoverished circumstances at the turn of the century. Dorothy gives a tough, unsentimental and ultimately wonderful performance as the center of her loving but struggling family. James Dunn as the "dreamer" father, and Peggy Ann Garner as the striving daughter are equally superb.
I would only confess to you guys that for me, Dorothy McGuire has been a wee bit of an acquired taste; at times I have found a few performances a little too arch or mannered or something. But despite my paltry quibbles, she's super talented, and the performance in "A Tree..." clinches it for me!

I knew Friendly Persuasion would be one of the films. Tony Perkins as McGuire's young son who wants to go off to fight in the Civil War, before he got typecast as a psycho!

That's right, @Pearlee. He was appropriately gawky, but quite cute in "F. P."!

I LOVE Friendly Persuasion!
Dorothy McGuire was Mary Jordache in Rich Man, Poor Man. (loved)

My DVR is set for Susan Slade. I haven't seen it in a while.

What, no Spiral Staircase! I love that movie and have seen it many times. The atmosphere and rain storm with thunder and lightening throughout gives that thriller environment and McGuire is great in her role as a mute. I also liked Dorothy McGuire in the Enchanted Cottage and of course Friendly Persuasion, great song!

@spiderw, they definitely should have had "The Spiral Staircase" on this day. Dorothy McGuire and cast were excellent, and it would have been a perfect suspenseful follow-up to "Cry Wolf" of the other day...

I don't know how many time I have seen A Tree Grows in Brooklyn but I always find myself watching it again. Dorothy McGuire plays the role with her feet on the ground and keeping the family together. But I think the role James Dunn plays was written for him.
I know he had problems behind the screen but you could never tell from this movie.
And doesn't Dorothy McGuire look stunning in Gentlemen's Agreement? I guess I had seen too many movies with her playing an older "Mom" type like Swiss Family Robinson, A Summer Place and Friendly Persuasion.

I remember a Saturday afternoon back in the early 80's stumbling across a movie called Friendly Persuasion. It was just beginning and my two year old just went down for his nap. What a movie. I fell in love with the movie and bought it as soon as I could find it on VHS. I still have the tape.
