@antiquarian  - Yes - I do remember Connie Stevens in Hawaiian Eye!!  That was a long time ago!

It sure was, @twinsister.  I loved those Warner Bros. t.v shows, including Surfside Six and 77 Sunset Strip.  But Hawaiian Eye was my favorite.  I just loved all the "tiki", "Polynesian" decor.

A Summer Place is a must for me. I remember going to see it with my cousin. I was young and quite impressed by the movie. Went home to our apartment and thought some people really live like that. My cousin had six children and wondered about her thoughts.

Re: TUESDAY IS DOROTHY MCGUIRE DAY ON TCM

@Oznell ,   and all of our PoPcorn movie watchers.

      I always thought that

Dorothy MCGUIRE was a lovely lady with such a certain soft innocence so rare, being of genuine distinguished qualities.  A beautiful speaking voice.

      Hope I did;

I had told you, possibly last winter -I loved A Summer Place when my best female high school friend and I saw it for OUR 1st time, not in the 1958 (??) when it was released- a little later but was at at an authentic movie theater.

   I believe we were just about 14-15. Of course it's on now, ....

my husband just told me (not for him,though)        Man Very Happy..believe he would be watching

 >>>[[ the Spider that ate Philadelphia ]]<<<, so I lose because I told him I had very little use for my own TV...but I did learn a lot- A LOT from watching that movie. Absolutely adore Richard Egan and hissed at Constance Ford.

   The one [piece of beauty] is how understanding her father was with so much of his life to teach to his daughter, and in general with sound advice to teach her;

                          ... she was no Jezebel.

  I know while growing up, if that 'should have happened' - any girl is sent off to this well known farm where there's always ... 'An Aunt Minnie' living there. Then suddenly she back again all smiles and strange stares.

  Absolutely a time of young girls being so naive and filled to the brim with innocence. All girls to me at that age and time were quite beautiful. Now? Have no idea.

      Enjoy,

whomever is watching...think of me at fifteen, as I was swooning at that age~~~~

 `````````````loved that teen movie.  NAES
@twinsister  Oooh boy, SUSAN SLADE!  I love that one, lol.  Kitsch Central!!  Jaunty Max Steiner score.  To-die-for beach house.  "Officer McShane" (Lloyd Nolan) as Dorothy's husband. (everything comes full circle, ha!).  Troy Donahue, as always, is impossibly earnest.   Connie Stevens, what can one say?  Perky, bouncy, cute.  Remember her as Cricket on Hawaiian Eye?
    @antiquarian ,
                 didn't you think that Troy Donahue was almost ideally stereotyped or those types of movies? Susan Slade was so similar to A Summer Place.
 I did see him in person ( my hometown) when the girls were waiting outside screaming; the police disguised him as  ''one of them"- uniform and all.
             I was there for a conference meeting/ Hotel.
Well, I stayed up to watch Callaway Went Thataway. I did enjoy the movie. I thought Howard Keel did very well in his roles. And Dorothy McGuire was quite charming.
I am glad she had her "day". It showed what a varied roles that she played.
I do, @NAES1 -- frankly it's always been difficult for me to differentiate between those roles they put Troy in.  PARRISH too I believe, plus some others.  He did sort of "break out" by playing against type in MY BLOOD RUNS COLD.  How lucky you were to have seen such an iconic teen idol in person!  How did Troy look? (as a cop?)
@Oznell  Oh, boy, been reminding myself to tell people about Invitation-love that movie. Not to mention that lush background music of the song, Invitation. Haunting. Definitely haunting. Great words, too. But, you guessed it. I forgot to record it.
Gentlemen's Agreement. Another winner. Loved it.
