Spotted an interesting item about dashing male stars of the past.  Their examples were:   Cary Grant, Marcello Mastroianni, Alain Delon, Jean Paul Belmondo, Steve McQueen.

They said each had what the Italians call  "sprezzatura",  which they translated as "effortless style".   

Asking Italian speakers, is that a good definition of "sprezzatura"?  Any other interpretations?  It's a neat word, had never heard it before.

I completely agree that they had 'effortless style',  to burn!

Not all that familiar with the foreign actors except for Delon and not a great fan of McQueen.  I would put Paul Newman and Hugh Grant in that category.  And I'm sure a couple of others.

Agree re Cary Grant.   I developed a huge crush on Robert Goulet (singer) in my teens when he was in the broadway play Camelot.    Was fortunate to see him in person several times over the years.    IMO, George Clooney today fits into the list.   Whenever I am in the hospital, I name my iv bag and pole, George.  Figure if I have to drag tat thing around with me might as well be a good looking guy. 😄😄😄

Paul Newman filmed SlapShot here in our little town, he set the town's female hearts on fire. We had a basement classroom in our building, complete with kitchen, couches and television and bathrooms. He and his crew often took their breaks down there. . . and every day a letter ended up in my 'outgoing' bin for the mailman . . . he wrote a letter to his wife every single day that he was in our office.
