Opening in theaters in limited release on Christmas Day.
All I can say is, Whoa, whoa whoa! What dynamic casting of Washington and McDormand as the tortured, murderous Macbeth and his driven Lady!
As sixty-somethings, they are a little older than the usual candidates for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth-- that only heightens the drama and the stakes for these complex plotters....
This should be insanely good. It's gotten rave advance reviews and is billed, among other things, as a tribute to directors Orson Welles and Ingmar Bergman. Filmed in haunting black and white.

Denzel was on Colbert and talked about the age thing. Indicated that some of the dialogue was changed . I really, really, really want to see this.
Did I read somewhere that one person plays all three witches?
We have a copy of Scotland,PA and in that one of the witches is played by Andy ******.
In WS,s time people really believed in ghosts, etc.

I portend Oscar nominations for this film.

Macbeth is one of the few Shakespeare plays I like. Great cast! If I were willing to sit in a theater, I might see this one.

Changing Shakespeare's dialogue? Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Olivier's award winning and acclaimed version of Hamlet (1948) reduced the original text by nearly half and eliminated several characters.
Orson Welles' version of Macbeth (1948) eliminated text and included the rewiting of multiple passages.

I think Macbeth is the top play ever written by Shakespeare.
The rewriting of dialogue makes sense-not everyone is a Shakesperian scholar and the language can be a tad hard sometimes.
Remember Cliff Notes?? LOL
I love all things Shakespeare and this version looks to be a definite winner.

Rewriting and altering text for film versions of Shakespeare is quite common and has been going on for years.
The George Cukor directed version of Romeo and Juliet (1936) involved much rewriting and text editing. Character removal is frequent, lines are excised in favor of action and lines are redistributed among characters.
