Re: THE FUGITIVE "THE HOMECOMING" DAVID JANSSEN SHIRLEY KNIGHT MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN ME

I wasn't surprised the gloves came off right from the start because Mrs. Pruitt engineered having the horse throw her in the beginning scene. Dorina was scheming right from the start. She knew Janice would be expecting her father to pick her up so that manufactured little accident made him alter his plans. Once Janice arrived home most women would have been sensitive/sensible enough to know he needed to talk to his daughter alone but there she was before he could even tell her he had remarried. Also note when David and Janice returned fron the bus stop there was no indication of Dorina's earlier tumble.

@Pearlee  I thought it was clear also that Potter's dogs were gone so didn't understand why no one other than David seemed to even consider the current dogs could have been other dogs. As far as that quick decision about returning her to the sanitarium that was all a part of Dorina's plan. She didn't expect her husband, Allan, to return as early as he did. She apparently didn't have a way to contact her cousin to tell him not to bring the dogs. Dorina really wasn't concerned about whether David would hear the dogs because she was already in the process of trying to discredit him which is why she made a point of telling both the sheriff and Allan that David and Janice were together while she was "in her nightclothes".

Re: THE FUGITIVE "THE HOMECOMING" DAVID JANSSEN SHIRLEY KNIGHT MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN ME

@Tique. All good points but I still think she should gave waited just a couple of days til David left so he wouldn't hear the dogs (wait til her husband was away again) . Her husband liked David and thought he was smart so she couldn't be sure her husband would believe her over David. And if she couldn't reach her cousin to call off the dogs (maybe she couldn't-- we don't know) why call the sheriff over so yet another person would hear them? Your post is all reasonable but it will always be a plot flaw to me!

Oh @Pearlee you beat me. That was my this week's best exchange. Well I transcribed it so I will still post Dorina's mini monologue and Kimble's line.

"You wouldn’t last five minutes in those woods. You’d be so lost you’d maybe never find your way out. You might not be as lucky as me. You grow up in those woods you learn your way around. Like an animal. My paw used to shake his head and say “that Dorina’s more wild critter than girl’. I guess that’s hard for you to believe. All the dirt washed off.

"Not all of it."   Brilliant line and brilliantly delivered.

Re: THE FUGITIVE "THE HOMECOMING" DAVID JANSSEN SHIRLEY KNIGHT MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN ME

A few observations - As others have noted, it was distracting when someone called him David. The opening scenes of the countryside reminded me of the episode in Connecticut with the dog Colleen.

Not even five minutes into the story and once again Kimble was Sir Galahad coming to the aid of a damsel in distress when Dorina fell off the horse!  She certainly was a wicked stepmother.  I laughed at the way Dorina was checking out David in the barn (or whatever that was) when he walked out.  @Pearlee - it must have been his Banlon shirt -LOL.  I do remember when woman walked around with those scarves!!

While he was waiting for Janice to get off the bus, I noticed a Kentucky Fried Chicken sign painted on the bench - a sign of the times.

Good points have been made about Dorina wasting no time in showing her true colors to Janice and how Dorina should have waited before having her cousin scare Janice.

Also, even though the sheriff appeared at the beginning of the episode, I though this might be one time where Kimble wouldn't be afraid of his true identity being found out.  If it wasn't for Dorina egging him on, the sheriff  probably wouldn't have given Kimble a second thought.

@twinsister. I enjoyed your remarks and I'm so happy you remember both the Banlon shirts and those chiffon scarves (which, when they weren't being used to fling about for sexiness as Dorina used hers they were tied around the neck. Dual purpose!😄). I missed the KFC "ad". Those were early days for that chicken.

And LOL I did think of you when Kimble aided Dorina after she fell off the horse, although he didn't give away any of his doctor skills.

You are so right about Kimble not fearing this sheriff although he looked afraid and turned away from the sheriff toward the mantelpiece when introduced to him and was told that's the sheriff. In fact Kimble challenged him twice to state what charges would be if the sheriff wanted to arrest him; Kimble was actually defiant!
By the way, I found the sheriff's huge teeth to be even more distracting than calling David "David."
His teeth lit up my bedroom in the dark! 😄

So did you and @Tique like this episode?

@Pearlee  I almost fell off my couch.

Happy smiley 1Absolutely. I liked it. Could have had less of Gloria and more of Shirley. That's just me and my personal preferences.

@Tique. Of course Gloria was the much bigger name at that time.
A little tangent about @Oznell's comment on how dressed up Knight was when she got off the bus.

People really got dressed up to go on airplanes.
Air travel then for most people was a nig event in their lives for being so rare. And they dressed for the "occasion." But people dressed up a lot more then for almost everything. You'll see Kimble in a future episode at a baseball game and men in the stands are wearing suits, ties and dress hats (not baseball hats.) I see that episode now and think ""well that's pretty crazy."

Re: THE FUGITIVE "THE HOMECOMING" DAVID JANSSEN SHIRLEY KNIGHT MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN ME

@Tique. Just now saw your post about the not all the dirt washed off line. Sorry I beat you to it but am glad you copied here the entire exchange.

Yes, that was brilliant dialogue brilliantly delivered. What I was thinking last night was how very quickly Kimble had sized up Dorina; he is quite good about quickly discerning people's true nature. And Mr Pruitt was pretty much a dolt, with his "lonliness" blinding him to the real Dorina. It turns out Mr. Pruitt was the real goober! 😄

I wondered if Dorina saying to Kimble "I could be your friend"was a seduction invitation or not and liked K's answer to that too:"If I need a friend I'll let you know" and walked away.

It's amaxingbthat there were 2 women in the ccx show and neither swooned over Kimble! ❤

Re: THE FUGITIVE "THE HOMECOMING" DAVID JANSSEN SHIRLEY KNIGHT MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN ME

@Pearlee - I forgot to mention that I definitely enjoyed this episode.

A few other things - Shirley Knight played her role very well.  Now that you said it - yes, the sheriff's teeth were large.  He looks familiar, but can't remember where else I have seen him.  Will have to look the episode up on IMDB.  Your're right that Kimble did look away for a minute when he was first introduced to the sheriff.  I thought he may excuse himself and leave, but he stayed.

People always got dressed up when traveling. For my first plane ride in 1970 my friends and I wore dresses and high heels! We even took pictures before we got on the plane, it was such a big deal - LOL!  Traveling was very glamorous back then, but when I look at those pictures now 50 years later, I laugh.

Ladies I'll tell you something I once read about Janssen that I cannot get out of my mind when I look at him, so keep reading at your own risk!

He has triangle eyes. He does indeed and I think that when I first see him each and every week. week.
