@Pearlee   I wondered why I didn't remember this line. Mystery solved. It wasn't in the episode I saw. It is however in the episode that is on YouTube. There's a whole scene with Kimble looking through the cabinets and the frig. He made himself a sandwich which is when he had the knife mentioned above. Having seen that deleted scene the "Joan Crawford" reference makes a lot more sense because when I first heard it, it seemed to come from nowhere.

@Oznell  has mentioned this before and now I've seen it for myself.

@Tique I had watched it on YouTube so I could go to bed earlier Sunday night! I hate that the person who put it up left in commercials!
But I figured he had recorded it once on MeTv (it has been on there on and off for years, as I've said used to be on at midnight) so I'm surprised by your post. I'm glad you did get to hear that line and more about Joan Crawford too.

@Oznell sparks did fly between DJ and AD because they did have an on and off romantic relationship for many years.  I don’t know about Nancy Malone and never saw that interview, but he was a womanizer, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

i do remember the Brass Episode.  Personally, I thought is was good.

Oh, boy, @chloe4578 --  I kind of suspected that, and now you've confirmed it!   Janssen really got around, and so did Angie Dickinson.

That's one part of his persona I find so unappealing.  Even in that profligate town, he was known for his womanizing.  Oh, I know so many of them in Hollywood get an inflated sense of themselves and their power and personal magnetism-- and of course, there are all those other beautiful people there....

Makes me have renewed respect for someone like Patrick McGoohan, who wouldn't even countenance love scenes that were too explicit, because of his wife and his faith.  What a rarity!  I'm sure he was thought to be hopelessly prim, but I salute him for it.... must have been hard, and also somewhat career-damaging...

But there's no doubt that DJ created one of the most indelible, sensitive, honorable and interesting characters on the small screen, at least!

Bethel Leslie replaced Ann Williams in the role of Dr Maggie Powers on the soap The Doctors, mid 60's. I used to watch with my grandmother.

@Oznell I sure don't think he had an inflated sense of himself, his power and personal magnetism. He was extremely attractive (although didn't age well IMO) and all those women were falling at his feet! I sure would have, except for being underage at the time! If I'd met him in adulthood, it would have been "just say the word, David. Your place or mine?"

That's not to say I condone all his womanizing (esp while he was married-that was not good), excessive drinking and other carousing. I'm just saying he was super attractive and smart and the women were willing. So he certainly did have those things you mentioned (esp the magnetism) and rather than having an inflated sense of it, he worked it.

I meant that statement, @Pearlee , about inflated senses of power, etc.,  probably more in the general sense of "Hollywood", than as applying to DJ individually, but in a sense, I think it does apply in his case somewhat.

His actions (or anyone who behaves that way) sort of demonstrate that to me.  Whatever the state of his marriage, by all accounts much this stuff was going on while it was still "intact", and his wife was reportedly very hurt by it.  Yes, he was no doubt conscious of his magnetism, but he went further and chose to exercise it, repeatedly, in a very public way.  That to me says an individual has an inflated sense that HIS wants override those reasonable expectations of others (like someone he's shared vows with, for example.)  The fact that many women were eager to participate doesn't have an impact on his own personal responsibility.

Whew, of course I have no first hand knowledge of the complexities of his marriage or r'ships, clearly!  But all I'm saying is that he made conscious choices (that may have been influenced or not by the rarefied, laissez-faire atmosphere he swam in that encourages that behavior, and worse), and those choices don't make me admire his personal behavior.  I reserve that respect for others, with a different code of personal conduct.

But I am also singularly impressed by his talent, and always have been.

@Oznell. He cheated on both his wives. Ellie is 1st wife of 10 yrs to whom h ed was married during his TF years and Dani, his second wife. She was talked in interviews about how David moved in with another woman and Dani was going to divorce him but chose to fight for him instead (and won). I think she has said Hal Needham was the only husband who didn't cheat on her (before DJ she was married to Buddy Greco). Like you, I don't approve of DJ's moral conduct but he sure fad a lot of temptation.

Ellie wrote a book about their life and I ordered it once from Amazon which later informed me they couldn't get it.
