Re: THE FUGITIVE "MAY GOD HAVE MERCY" DAVID JANSSEN MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN METV

Such a good point about Victor not taking his daughter to those specialists, @Pearlee --  I'm wondering-- since we know he could be in denial about things--  could he have been in denial about the desperate nature of his daughter's condition?  Perhaps he couldn't face the idea that a 'general practitioner' pediatrician, even a talented one, was not able to address her case?   It's a thin proposition, but....

I'm right there with you cheering on Gerard's frustration, ha.

Could your family's mugs have been some form of jadeite?  Now I'm going to have to go back and look.

@Etoile308,  I'm so glad you are commenting regularly now on the thread, yay!   I had pondered that "May God Have Mercy" title too, but you have a complete, persuasive explanation for it.

I also enjoyed seeing a loving couple, who despite their problems and flaws, were essentially pulling together.

The police action in the crowded garage did seem hasty and ill-considered.  It was an uneasy scene to watch.

Great intuitive insight about the "empty sleeve" duplication -- I love parallels like that!   Had never occurred to me until you mentioned it.

@Etoile308 And it is the moderators here who enforce the guidelines which, no doubt, you are also well aware of.

@Oznell  Yes, denial is the only thing that makes sense as to why Telly refused to take his daughter to a specialist. Well, that reason and to have a plot of course! 😄  I have some jadeite pieces and I think the mugs were faux jadeite made of glass.

Oh, yes, @Pearlee ,  jadeite glass is so pretty, with that soft green "glow".   I notice you can still find vintage pieces on Ebay and Etsy.  This example looks more green than some I've seen, yours might have been more that prized, slightly softer green...

@Oznell  Yes, ours was a paler green than that but it's very similar.

@Oznell @Pearlee  - I thought that with such a good episode, there would have been more comments and discussion.

Re: THE FUGITIVE "MAY GOD HAVE MERCY" DAVID JANSSEN MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN METV

@Pearlee   thank you for that kind remark. I hadn't added anything because I just watched the episode this morning. After I did I checked in to read all of your comments. The things that came to mind immediately after I watched had already either been mentioned or discussed at length so I started thinking about some of the other less important/unbelievable things.

I was at a loss about Todd's dislike for Kimble. I didn't ever see Kimble tell on him so don't know why he started calling him Fink. I decided he was the fink. He was really impressed with his own self so I silently cheered when Kimble knocked him out.

No one mentioned the slap. When Victor slapped Anne, she was a lot more forgiving than I would have been. I agree with those who admired their marriage. Sick children who are either ill for a long period of time and/or who end up dying put a strain on a marriage like nothing else. For the two of them to go through all that and come out standing and still together was a testament to their love.

It was a pretty good episode. I really enjoyed Victor putting Gerard through his paces. Gerard usually thinks he's the smartest person in the room so I like when he's proven not to be.

I also enjoyed seeing Norman Fell in a serious role. It wasn't the first time but it was a reminder that he handled drama as well as he did comedy.

Lastly for what was completely unbelievable and unfathomable: Gerard seeing that Linen Supply truck sitting there, knowing that Kimble had just run out and disappeared and he just let the man drive off without having him open the back of the truck. Those were not the actions of the Gerard I have come to know. And loath.

@Tique  😄 @ your last sentence.

Good thoughts. I'm not going to watch an epi that many days before discussion day again. I intended to mention that Gerard not checking the truck for Kimble wasn't believable but I had forgotten by the time I wrote  my comments. I'm glad you mentioned it.

Of course it made for better drama for the audience for Gerard to get outsmarted in that way but you are right. Gerard prides himself for having Kimble all figured out as to what his moves will be.

I winced when I saw that slap too. But those were different times.  Although there was outrage when Sean Connery said it was OK for a man to slap his wife if she deserved it, it was still more acceptable than it is now to slap a woman across the face (punching was definitely not acceptable).  It was definitely acceptable for a woman to slap a man's face if he was "fresh" (you can see that in films) and of course spanking kids on the bottom was acceptable discipline and widely used.

Re: THE FUGITIVE "MAY GOD HAVE MERCY" DAVID JANSSEN MONDAY 2:00 A.M. EASTERN METV

Glad you decided to come in with your thoughts even though you felt others had covered some things, @Tique !  It's always instructive and interesting to me when there are multiple, almost identical viewer reactions to a particular thing--  for example, like if we all, each in our own individual way, say that in a particular scene, Gerard annoyed us even more than usual, ha.  I can never hear that too much.

So glad you brought up that laundry van thing.  I also thought it out of character, very much so, that Gerard didn't check it out.  Also, sloppy police work on the part of Lt. Cermak, since he was there too.  My husband said, well, they didn't know for sure that Kimble came out of that particular exit (but I thought they did-- unless when he got to the first floor there were different directions and doors he could have exited from--  I can't remember the sequence in that escape scene well enough).  In any event, even if they didn't know for sure, it would have been more thorough to check all vehicles like that, of course.

That was a very precarious scene-- if any number of things had gone wrong, like if Kimble had panicked and tried to exit the van when the driver stopped before leaving the lot to close the door that gaped open-- well, he would have been caught.  For Kimble, timing is everything.
