Great episode!  I enjoyed it very much and would definitely watch again.  A nice change from the recent dreary episodes.

Carol Rossen and Telly Savalas were very believable in their roles.  I have to say Vic's confession was a twist I never saw coming.  Anne's compassion towards RK despite her husband's hatred for him was admirable. Both of their actions almost cost RK his life. It was interesting to see how in their own way they tried to rectify it without telling each other.

It is amazing to me how on more than one occasion Gerard came to face to face with Kimble and he wasn't able to bring him back to Indiana.  Talk about a blow to his ego, which added to his determination.  How many times have we heard Gerard say "he's guilty in the eyes of the law" despite circumstances which may have caused doubt.  I'm not used to seeing Norman Fell in a serious role, but he played it well.  

I loved Anne's chic mid-century wardrobe, especially her nubbly coat as @Oznell described.  @Pearlee - yes - it was a bonus seeing RK in his pajamas!

Two things that were far-fetched for me:  Neither Anne (for aiding a fugitive) or Vic (for making a false confession) were in trouble with the law.

The second is Kimble escaping in his hospital clothes and not fully recovered from his gunshow wound.  It would be hard to blend in under those circumstances and get a new job.  I know at times we have to suspend belief and just go along with the show.

Ha, I love all your points, @twinsister , and I have to chuckle about your comment that we often have to "suspend belief" in our dedication to the show--  we sure do!

Along those lines, doesn't Anne when she first confronts Kimble, call him "Dr. Kimble"?   There's a certain formality in her conversations with him, which would belie the fact that apparently, at least according to Victor, they used to play bridge together?  Maybe Vic made that up to sound even more plausible to the police in his confession, but still...   And I noticed that Kimble, at least at some points, called her by her first name, "Anne".

When Vic was confessing to the police, it was implied that his mention of seeing a man with one arm on site would make him even more convincing to the police.  But anyone, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the "one-armed man" thing widely known by the public--  I thought that had been publicized.  So to me it didn't increase Victor's credibility that he knew that...

I did love that he seemed very smart and crafty in his talks with the police, and I imagine his familiarity as a builder with that house, helped.

Your comment @twinsister , about both the Leonettis almost costing Kimble his life, resonated with me.  I kind of would have liked to see more acknowledgment about that from them at the end, or the script having a way they could have crossed paths again, (although that would be difficult, given he had to run for his life!).  But at least Victor wanted to pay any legal fees for what he thought was the "captured" Kimble, which was a sweet and generous gesture....

Oh, and your point about him in his hospital whites. Even with an overcoat, he must have been conspicuous with the white pants.   Between that, and the serious shoulder injury, you have to wonder how those first few hours following escape would turn out--  it would be a very dangerous time for him, weakened and clad in odd, conspicuous clothing....

@Oznell - Yes - Anne did call him "Dr. Kimble" when they first spoke, but their conversations in the car, were not as formal.

I think that the one-armed man theory was widely known.  For me the fact that when the police found out that the Leonetti's were originally from Stafford, Vic's confession would not have seemed so believable, since most of the town would have known so many details.

@twinsister. I really enjoyed your post about this episode; very good comments. Let me add that the most implausible thing in this epi was Savalas refused to take his daughter  to see a number of heart specialists Kimble recommended. Why? It wasn't against his religion. (There will be a future Kim Darby epi about that.)  No explanation was offered and that was just not plausible to me. And if he refused to take her to several already, why was Kimble off to NYC to get yet another one (even if the best)? It didn't make sense that a man of Savalas' sophistication would refuse.  As for the couple not being charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive, I watched it almost a week ago so don't remember all the details but was there enough evidence that they helped him escape? I don't think anyone saw Rossen driving Kimble.

Telly made a false statement to the police but maybe they didn't want to charge him. I did love the scene where Gerard tried to trip Telly up and kept failing. I agree that there was a lot of publicity about the crime but the police hold things back too so I'm just assuming Gerard asked some questions the public wouldn't have known to try to trip him up. I loved how frustrated Gerard was getting when Telly kept answering correctly.

We have seen several episodes saying that Helen was strangled, including this one. Remember that because I do think there is an inconsistency in the 2-part series ending.  Also Gerard's wife is played by different actresses. I don't think we see the one from this epi again although we will see more of Mrs. Gerard.

Of minor note, at one point Fell drinks coffee at his desk. We used to have a set of the mug he used! I had a flashback of my parents drinking coffee when I saw that! In real life the mugs were such a pretty color. They were translucent and looked like what a light green (mint green) opal would look like. Gosh I wish I had those.

  Rossen looked more glamorous than usual.

I like this episode a lot also.

@Pearlee  - Thanks!  You bring up a very good point about Vic's refusal to take his daughter to the specialists.  I never thought of it, but it is hard to believe.  As for the doctor in NYC, when Anne was talking to Vic, she said the NY doctor was so good, that even he would have agreed to take their daughter.  However, that still doesn't explain his refusal to do anything to help his daughter.

When Anne was driving RK to the  bus depot, he said she could be charged with helping a fugitive and the police saw him by her car when he got out.  

Speaking of tht scene, to me it looked like a stunt double when he was trying to run away from the cops and got shot.

Yes- Rossen did look glamorous.

Some of my comments on this episode. Just starting with the title "May God Have Mercy." It's usually a phrase completed by "...on your soul" and is often the final sentence a judge uses when proclaiming a death sentence. This time the phrase not just applys to Kimble but also we find out early on, to Leonetti. 

I thought it was refreshing to see a couple that actually loves each other, though not without their own difficulties. And were even able to stay together after the death of their only child. I think a lot of Leonetti's pain is self inflicted. His wife said he blames Kimble so he wouldn't blame himself. He knows for whatever reason he prevented further treatment for his daughter. Was he in denial? Did his ego view her defect as his fault? 

Anyone else thinks, hopes that in the next ten months they have another child? Don't you enjoy shows where you think about and care about what happens to the characters when the episode ends?

Leonetti knew the details of Helen's death because they had mentioned they had gone to the trial. And I liked how Anne said that those who knew Kimble didn't believe he had done it. Even though Leonetti gave a false statement to police, they were aware he was dying from listening to the conversation, it would have been cruel and a waste of resources to charge a dead man walking.

Kimble was perspiring a lot. Is he certain he wasn't running a fever?

And what is with those cops and guns? I know many jurisdictions allowed shooting a fleeing felon, but come on. You fire two warning shots in a bus depot garage with low concrete ceilings and people around. One ricochet and you have an entirely different story. Then the Lt. coming out the door after Kimble and points his gun at the linen supply driver. 

Seemed like a very small hospital, yet they had a prison ward. Was that the norm?

One of the highlights, or at least satisfying moments was when Kimble whacked Dr. Toby in the back. Payback for all those Pop, Fink, and Killer comments.

And then the final scene when things came full circle. Leonetti stated in his false confession that he had seen the one armed man, or a man with an empty sleeve, a coat sleeve. Here was Kimble, off into the night with an empty coat sleeve.
