I saw The Big Sick this morning and loved it.

Kumail Nunjiani has perfected turning awkward into art, as he does so well in his routines.  And all based on a big, soft, strong layer of love and acceptance.  I especially loved how those two things within him gave him such strength that he didn't allow his parents to disown him.

I thought both of her parents were played beautifully.  Ray Romano was great and, while I have not enjoyed Holly Hunter in other productions, here she was well cast, playing a somewhat brittle mom whose strength and love came through for the good of all.

I don't think it can be named anything specific, not comedy, not drama.  It's life.  I cried at the end, from joy.

[was Homegirl] Love to be home . . . thus the screen name. Joined 2003.

Thank you for this recommendation, DiAnne.  Hope to see it on the big screen.
