Backstage on March 25, 1954 Esther Williams crosses her fingers for friend Donna Reed. Esther presented Best Film Editing and her good wishes helped Donna win Best Supporting Actress for From Here to Eternity.

March 19, 1953 Shirley Booth accepts her Oscar for Come Back, Little Sheba. She is in the NBC studios in New York for the first show to be held simultaneously in Los Angeles and New York and the first to be televised.
Shirley was the first actress in her 50s to win Best Actress and the last person born in the 19th century (1898) to win in a lead role.

*Chaplin's Limelight was originally released in October 1952. It was never screened in Los Angeles until 1972, making it eligible for that year's Academy Awards. It won the Oscar for Best Original Dramatic Score in March 1973. Chaplin was among the recipients, making it his only Oscar win in competition.
