I love them all. I see "Come to the Stable" is on, too, starring Loretta Young, Celeste Holm and Elsa Lanchester.

Holiday Inn is a very problematic movie. That's why it isn't shown much anymore. The portrayal of African Americans is cringe-worthy and despite TCM's disavowal in presenting the film, the black-face is beyond upsetting. It's a shame since the rest of the film is very good. Hopefully, the movie powers-that-be can figure out a way to present this film within the context of the time it was created. It's important that we know our history, even the bad stuff.

Holiday Inn is not at all included in this TCM Christmas Marathon.  But thanks.

Re: TCM CHRISTMAS MARATHON STARTING DECEMBER 18

I remember one year, (I believe it was TCM) played all three A Christmas Carol movies back to back.  It was very interesting to see how the characters were played a little differently during the era in which they were made.  You didn't feel like you were watching the same movie.

Re: TCM CHRISTMAS MARATHON STARTING DECEMBER 18

I posted on another thread that A Holiday Affair and Christmas in Connecticut are on TCM this Sunday, back to back, beginning at 4:15.  I stream through Spectrum but have a tv with built-in Roku so I downloaded the TCM app and did a search for several x-mas movies and these showed up.  I'm guessing it's the same for everyone.

I generally see White Christmas on AMC and I am hoping they will show the original Miracle on 34th St.

It Happened on 5th Avenue has been on a number of times on Movies! so I did tape it to watch at my leisure.

It appears White Christmas isn't on the list. Hoping someone else will opt to show this one. Sort of a shame that they aren't offering it during this holiday season.

@stevieb , AMC, which generally shows this, seems to be stuck showing Christmas Vacation and ELF over and over and over again.  It seems like those 2 movies have been on 100 times already.

@Lipstickdiva Interesting, isn't it, how the term 'classic' can be variously applied... Some might even say it's an eye-roller...

Glad you mentioned Holiday Inn, @Vivian .  It's a classic film from 78 years ago. Irving Berlin wrote 12 songs for it, the best known being "White Christmas," sung for the first time by Bing Crosby, whose co-star was Fred Astaire. Louise Beavers -- who played Mamie, the only character wise enough to cut down and talk sense into Bing's love-lorn, prideful character -- was a beloved star whose many movies led to her induction into The Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame. Holiday Inn has been a favorite seasonal entertainment of mine since childhood. While It's understandable that some today will be unable or unwilling to appreciate it for what it is, TCM's decision to omit it from the Christmas lineup strikes me as short-sighted and sad.
