This whole streaming world is new to me--yes I am not a spring chickenWoman Wink--but decided to get the new Max--Disney+-Hulu package and have been watching Only Murders in the Building--and what a funny show!! I do love the stars and just watched from the first season, the epidsode that was nearly all silent as it dealt with a deaf person--what a clever concept. Been laughing out loud at the writing---Steve Martin has always been a fave --not so much Marty Short but he is perfectly cast and never knew much about Selena. and NO ads!!! Amazing !! Any other suggestions as what to watch?

Hi @wagirl ...glad you jumped in...you're going to find so many good things to stream.

I don't have Max or Disney+, but I go off and on Hulu, as I watch certain things. Currently on, and "they got me" as I couldn't stand all the commercial interruptions every 3 minutes, so I sprung for no ads this spring, while watching American Idol, then I also like Pamela Anderson's home renovation show, two seasons so far. Then I may go off it again for a bit. I usually start back up in Feb, for Idol, and keep it through the summer...though I don't watch it a lot.

I've often eyed that Steve Martin/MS/Selena show, thinking I'd enjoy it. I love Steve Martin too, and it looks cute. I'll check it out before leaving Hulu again.

My other streaming is Netflix. Mainly because they carry Gilmore Girls which I tend to rewatch a lot. Also, currently Friday Night Lights is on there...that is SUCH a great series.

I do have Prime but hardly ever watch things on there...most of what I'd want to watch you have to pay for anyway, which I do, if there's something I want to see. Last thing I saw on that I enjoyed was the Nicole Kidman/Javiar Bardem(spelling?) I Love Lucy film...I thought was very good.

Enjoy streaming!

It would be new to me too, but I'm so glad you decided to jump in.  My mom watches nothing but Netflix on her laptop.  She loves it!  I've never watched anything on it though.  She nearly went crazy when our WiFi was out and she was stuck watching satellite tv lol.

I hope you find lots of great programming.  Please let us know about any other great shows you find.😃❤️

@amyb --I did try out Netflix and really didn't find much there. I don't watch the old programs --I watched them when they were new years ago--- I don't watch the reality stuff either, not a fan of those--but would/will watch Downton Abbey if available as I got into that a few seasons into the series. Looking forward to seeing the movies tho.

We got rid of DISH in Apr 2022. I was tired of paying around $130 per month.

Streaming this year is only $6.82 per month with the deals I have. I paid $50 for 1 year of Paramount, $20 for 1 year of Peacock & .99 per month or $11.88 for 1 year of Hulu. All with ads. Gives me time to get up & move around. I don't watch ads or listen to them. I put it on mute until the ads are finished.

I also watch shows on Tubi & Freevee that are free. There are other free services but I use Tubi more. It seems to have less ads.

I have been watching a lot of Olympics lately. If I couldn't save the shows to my list to watch later I would miss a lot of what I want to watch.

I keep forgetting I also have Prime which is $8.99 per month if you don't have Prime. I do have Prime. So I guess I'm paying $15.81 per month which is still less than DISH.

Re: Started streaming yesterday

I've had YouTubeTV for about 4 years and never run. Out of something to watch.  The selections seem infinite.

I saw something this morning I'd never seen.  One channel had 4 selections, one in each quadrant and you clicked on one to enlarge the screen.  Two of the choices were Olympic events, one being the equestrian event, which was exactly what I wanted to see.  I watched until it ended.  The US is out of the finals.

I have SlingTV which is "fine." But it has some real technical quirks.

I've only ever heard good things about YouTube. It looked a little expensive, though. I assume you think the value is worth the cost, yes?

@Nightowlz

I really wish we could get rid of our satellite directv service and use these streaming services.  I'm not sure why, but my mom is able to watch Netflix on her laptop.  However, if I try to stream anything on the tv in my room, the internet speed will not support it.  It buffers to the point that it's unwatchable.

I think this must be because our internet service is a satellite service that only people who live in the country mainly use.  Cable tv doesn't even run as far to my home.  Naturally, it stops about four miles short.

There's talk of a new tower going up soon that will provide cell service and hopefully allow for better internet.  I really hope this will happen.  It will surely help cost wise because tv and internet are both so expensive...not to mention having to keep a landline phone too.

@cheriere

One of my sisters has the same issues trying to find a decent carrier. They won't even deliver pizza to her house. It's not that far from her house either. Maybe 10-15 mins.

She has higher costs for Internet, cable, security due to her location.

I have read they are working on providing everyone reliable Internet, phone, TV.

You will have to have better Internet speeds to use the VOIP home phone when they turn off regular home phone service. It did say for those people living in areas where you count on your home phone that they could not just turn off your service. They have to figure out how to fix it.

Who knows how long it will take? Hope they get something in your area at reasonable prices.

I'm glad they installed Fiber Optics here. They talked about it so long ago I had forgot about it. We saw them working in the neighborhood. Couldn't believe it finally happened. The price is also less than our cable around $130 per month. We have a 5 yr price lock of $55 for the fiber.

I understand. As for me, on the other hand. I never watched Gilmore Girls until it came on Netflix, so I binged it during the pandemic in 2020. It was such a good show to get lost into during those times. I had never watched Friday Night Lights until streaming either. So I've enjoyed both that way, and even rewatched. I tend to rewatch shows I really loved. I love Downton Abbey...so good.

I'm not into most reality shows, but have always enjoyed Idol, and still do. The Pam design "reality" show...I only like it because I love her design aesthetic...so I'm living vicariously through her, lol...watching her restore her granmother's family farm in Ladysmith British Columbia. Season 2 was much better than one. She took more control over S2 and it's become more authentic to her and a bit less cheesy.

Anyhow...enjoy whatever you do find!
