It seems more like behaviors of someone who had become too confident in their ability. It's usually what happens with animal incidents.
It was clear Mantecore WAS confused. He had no idea what Roy wanted him to do, being out of step with the consistent training, which was Roy's fault, too. But conking him on the face with the microphone wasn't the answer. He had no choice but to decide for himself what he would do, losing trust in his alpha leader.
He needed to walk that cat off the stage when he realized he was off program, but the show had to go on.
Why did such an accomplished trainer make such mistakes? This does give some credence to his belief he had a stroke right before falling. But, it could also be denial of his failure, for himself, and Mantecore.

@Mz iMac I absolutely believe this version. i think Roy made up the story about having a stroke, was so the tiger would not be blamed for bad behavior or something like that. He loved those animals so much, he would have fallen on the sword for any one of them.
For whatever reason, the actual video was never released by the management. In today's climate, there would have been videos galore from the audience. We would have known exactly what happened. JMO

@sophiamarieI believe this version also.

I did not watch. I do not approve of any wild animals being used as entertainment for humans. JMO

Yeah, that nagged at me a bit. The only consolation for me is that I know Roy LOVES animals and they are most likely treated VERY well. Still...
I think that animal racing, rodeos, and circuses that use animals should be against the law. I won't take part in any of that. I think most of us know that animals in those cases are not only treated horribly but even the course of what they do in front of audiences, especially with racing and rodeos, is horrific.

I am glad animals are no longer used in circuses and acts, as far as I know.

@sophiamarie Doctors said Roy did had a stroke, but couldn't say if it was before the incident or afterward.

To his credit, Roy took the blame, and ordered that nothing be done to the tiger, and Roy is paying daily for his error.

I watched it last evening. It was interesting. I have been to Vegas many times, but have never seen their show in person. I always felt that it was not a good idea to be the crowd with wild animals so close with no protection.
I love and respect wild animals, but don't trust them fully, nor do I trust a money making casino to keep me safe.
I have seen the white tigers in the lobby at the Mirage where I have stayed many times. never paid to visit the habitat though.

Didn't Roy also say something about stepping backwards in his high heeled shoes & stumbling over Mantecore's paws & falling backwards, which startled & confused the tiger?
