Say Yes To The Dress - Season 18 - Episode 2

OMG!  Did any of you see this newest episode?

One bride came with her Mom.  They were from Lebonon (well the mom was).  I only mention that because it kept coming up in the episode that she was having hundreds of people and the dress had to be 'a big deal'.

That mom was the poster mom for "Mom from Hell".  She was terrible.  So Randy called out the dress designer because the soon to be bride loved the dress but her mom said it was too...everything but mostly maybe? too fluffy?  The designer was Pnina Tornai.  When she came out to offer suggestions...the bride's mother couldn't stop talking about how amazing the designer looked and SHE wanted HER dress!  Eventually, the designer just walked away, she was so disgusted.  Eventually, Randy threw up his hands and walked away.

This Mother was so horrible!  I watch this show a lot off and on.  I've seen some pretty awful people giving their opinions on the bride dresses, but none as awful as this mother was to her daughter.

Probably like many of you, I always go back to when my 2 daughters got married.  I (and their sisters) went with them but I only offered my opinion when asked and then I let my daughter decide what SHE liked.

The oldest daughter picked out and wanted to pay for her own dress.  It was altered and ready and then she called off the wedding.  It was only delayed a short time.  She wanted my now son-in-law to get out of the Navy and he was sitting on the fence about it.

I asked her if she wanted to get a new dress and she said, "Nope!  No matter who I marry....I'm wearing that dress".  Ha!

The next daughter to get married hates trying on clothes and (like me) had the attention span of a fruit fly!  She told the attendant what she wanted.  The attendant brought out several dresses (they all looked the same to me).  They were A-line, no straps, and nothing on the dress.  The dress was real silk.  She put it on and looked amazing!  I waited to see what she'd say.  She said, "Looks good!  This is it!  Now can we go?"  Ha!

One thing I did learn though.  In our case (plus it was real silk) the more plain the dress the more expensive the dress!

My oldest daughter's dress is beautiful too.  It has flowers and lace in circles and is feminine and beautiful.  As I said the other daughter's dress is strapless and A-line with a train.  She did wear her sister's headpiece but the vail attached to it was different.  It had appliques that were hand sewn.

That entire ensemble was very, very expensive.

So, you want to hear about my wedding dress.  It was a beautiful typical wedding dress.  Long sleeves with a veil down to the elbows.  Want to know how much it cost me?

It was free!  Yepper.  A woman I worked with wore it once for a short time and had gotten divorced.  The dress fit perfectly (I was skinny then) and she said, "I don't want to see it again".  Ha!

I had a lot of people say, "You'll have bad luck".  But I believe we make our own happiness and our own luck.  I was married to my husband for 38 years when he died suddenly.  It was a fabulous marriage.

The entire wedding cost us $10 and that was to the Chaplan at Ft Myer church.  My brother paid for the reception and a family friend was a well known baker in town and he gave us our 3 tiered wedding cake!  The bridesmaids (3) all had dresses that looked almost exactly alike.  We walked under the Army rifles at the church.  The pictures are amazing!  Oh!  My (then) brother-in-law was a professional photographer and he took the pictures.  We were married withing a little less than 3 months from the time I laid eyes on him.

Talk a little (what ever you want to say) about your wedding dress....I'm interested.

@Annabellethecat66 , I saw that mother, and she was heinous. I know a lot  of the drama is manufactured, but why would anyone want to be portrayed like that  ?  I find myself wondering what dress that poor girl ended up with.

Re: Say Yes To The Dress - Season 18 - Episode 2

I haven't seen that episode.

I watch because there is nothing else on that appeals to me.

When we went dress shopping for my daughters dress she told me I would be banned from the appointment if I said "I want to see her in a .....?..... gown."

My only restrictions were none of those see through corseted Pnina Tornai type dresses and please not strapless that she would be tugging at all night.

She should have left her mother at home. I've never understood why people care about other people's opinions anyway. One should get a wedding dress that one likes! It doesn't matter what others think.

Re: Say Yes To The Dress - Season 18 - Episode 2

@QVCkitty1  Yes!  That's what I was thinking.  That girl was running out of time!

Watching that episode reminded me of my late husband's business partner's daugter's wedding (the first wedding, she was married 3 times...so far).

The Father (the partner) was from Iran.  He and his family had been here for quite a few years.  He owns (now) over 300 service stations.  It was a nightmare dealing with him after my husband died.....he didn't like the fact that I was a woman.  Ha!

Anyway, about the wedding.  They had about 600 people at that wedding!  Yepper!  So, my girls were in their teens by then and were not happy about coming.  We told them some famous singers were flying in from California (got the teens there).

So, you never saw so much food in your life.  Diamonds, fur, unbelievable clothes....

Now ask me how the food tasted?  I wouldn't know.  We got tired of waiting to eat!  As far as the entertainment?  I wouldn't know either.  I don't remember how long the thing lasted.....

Not everyone saw her get married...Just about 100 did.  We were among them...(lucky us).  Their religion is Baha'i.

When the mother and daughter were talking about how important it was to have very big and ornate dresses, I was reminded about a reality show I saw a few times.  It was about Gypsy's getting married.  They like similar dresses.

I always thought it was interesting, different religions and weddings, etc.  I can't remember the last time I went to a wedding.

My great niece is getting married in October.  She lives far from me but I'll send her a wedding gift.  I bet a lot of you are like me....these days I get invited to a lot of things.

But I sometimes wonder if I get invited because they know I'm not coming but I always send good presents.  Ha!

Come on....admit it...you guys....It's more like "Let's invite Aunt Annabelle...We know she won't come...too old...but she sends good gifts".  Ha!

Doesn't bother me though.  I send gift cards to great nieces, nephews, cousins, you name it.  It's a good way to sorta keep in touch.  Sometimes they acknowledge...sometimes they don't.  But I feel better and that's what matters to me...

Re: Say Yes To The Dress - Season 18 - Episode 2

I saw it briefly. So mom is from Lebanon? What was her point? Who cares?

Pnina Tornai has a boutique in the store. I've read some articles about the show and the brides are almost always shown Tornai gowns FIRST. They do heavily promote the brand.

I get so disgusted with some of those brides who bring a gang of people with them!! And the argument, the mean comments, too much drama.

I had a horrible "mother." I went to a shop, found my dress and paid for it myself. I took no one with me. The dress was simply and very pretty. I liked it and so did my husand and IMO that was all that mattered.

I got married in court on my lunch hour.  The license cost $10.  CA requires only one witness, and he took us out to eat (at a nice place in MDR) afterwards.   (I was wearing a suit that day).   Total cost to me:  Ø.

I just watched this show.  That mom was the worse.  She was more concerned about designer Pnina Tornai's outfit.  Pnina actually got disgusted with this woman.

I replayed it this morning because I thought I missed the final selection.  I wonder what happened??  Maybe the daughter left the salon with nothing.

Re: Say Yes To The Dress - Season 18 - Episode 2

I saw that episode, that mother was awful. Don't think that was manufactured or exaggerated, I think she's really that bad. Felt sorry for the daughter that she can't stand up to her mother. She did leave without a dress and said she would shop without her mother. Hopefully she stuck to that plan.

Her mother was cruel and didn't care at all about her daughter's feelings.
