Good! We love Jennifer, Bradley and Robert. Some names were changed to protect the not so innocent.

@MamaWick  I hope so since it's only "based on" a true story.

Here is another thread about the film, which really should be in this forum, in case you want to read more comments:

Do you need to know who Joy is to appreciate the movie or does the story stand on its own?

Curious because I have movie plans with 2 friends who never watch the shopping channels and we have yet to choose which movie.  Joy is a consideration, I think.

My 34 year old son LOVED the movie - and he can't stand shopping channels.

It actually has VERY LITTLE to do with QVC. It's a movie about a woman , against all odds, inventing and producing a mop, and raising her family out of poverty and despair. It could have been ANY product and any method of selling it.

If you enjoyed any of the following movies - you'll like "Joy":

Silver Linings Playbook, The Descendants, About Schmidt, Nebraska - all "small", character driven movies about families.

Also loved, The Fighter, another David O Russell film about family.

You don't need to know who Joy is to appreciate the movie.  Her last name is not even mentioned.  QVC is just a very small part of it and HSN is barely mentioned.

HSN promoted the movie over the holidays.  It was a low-key promotion (not like some of their others) but they still talked about it and had a few segments of "Get to know Joy".

@Pearlee  I read the other thread, thanks for the link.  I did leave comments there.  I guess most of the comments were made before the movie opened, but I did let them know that Bradley Cooper did not play the head of QVC or HSN.  Rather he was a big-time producer at QVC who took the chance on Joy and the mop.  HSN was only mentioned at the end of the movie, and QVC was not a big part of the movie.  The part of "Cindy" was definitely modeled after Kathy L.  The part of "Todd" I believe was Jeff H, but making him look like a balding, overweight buffoon.

The movie was more about Joy, her family, her childhood and her struggles to rise above.  It is for anyone who likes these rags to riches true stories.

Hi @MamaWick   I haven't seen the film (not very eager to do so) but I wonder if "Todd" was QVC host Steve Coluntuno?  He wasn't balding but I could definitely envision him as an overweight buffoon!  Smiley Happy
