OMG! OMG! Unbelievable!!!! Unbefreakin'lievable!!!! SCANDAL is the ultimate rollercoaster ride.
Creator-Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes plotted this so perfectly: flash forward 10 months since the last episode when the cabal's conspiracy about Defiance OH and the rigged election was revealed to Fitz. That was perfect! Absolutely brilliant! The shifting alliances, along with the distrust and contempt that Fitz is exhibiting to mask the humiliation he feels at being betrayed by those closest to him. POTUS seems well on his way to becoming an alcoholic. Is it possible for him to attend an AA meeting? LOL! (He may as well go to CHEERS, "where everybodys knows your name.")
Loved the way Fitz was flexing his Presidential muscle, ordering a SEAL-team bin-Laden-like raid to free the hostages. It was almost as if he had to prove to himself that even if he didn't win the election legitimately, he was going to justify his position as Commander-In-Chief. It just goes to show that you really don't want to tick off the guy who has the full force of the last remaining Super-Power's military might at his disposal.
Not to quibble or split hairs because I really, thoroughly, totally enjoyed the Fitz and Olivia reunion tryst in the electrical supply closet, but honestly - when has a President of the United States in modern times been able to take more than two steps without being surrounded by the Secret Service?
Rhimes has skillfully re-purposed yet another alumnus of GREY'S ANATOMY. Scott Foley, Captain Jacob Ballard on SCANDAL, was Henry Burton, the man who needed a transplant but lacked insurance, so Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) agreed to a sham marriage of convenience, but later developed real feelings for him. You could just tell from the outset that Ballard's "chance meeting" with Olivia at the coffee-shop was anything but coincidental. Then there was that creepy scene at the end where Ballard was watching Olivia's every move on cameras that had been installed in her apartment. It makes you wonder: who ordered this surveillance? When was it undertaken? And why?
The other major plot point was the set-up of David Rose. How ironic that after battling Olivia Pope and Associates, when he finds himself up to his eyebrows in an inexplicable murder frame-up, who's Numero Uno on his speed dial? I thought the plot to frame Huck for the attempted Presidential assassination was incredible, but after an ignominious downward spiral, David's been hung out to twist in the wind.
Then, of course, the coming attractions for next week's episode. WOW! What a totally wild ride AGAIN! Can't wait. I LOVE SCANDAL!!!! An hour a week is insufficient. I can't get enough.
