I was not thrilled with the parade this year. I was hoping to see lots of floats but instead only saw a few and many, many marching bands. I miss the old days when those huge floats could take up so much room and be so fabulous. I guess maybe they were economizing this year on the floats, making them smaller. I do remember this one which came at the end of the parade:

@lil Sophie I thought the same thing. The floats were sub par and too many bands. Also a lot more advertising, especially by Honda, than I remembered. The whole parade seemed to be all about Honda.

Didn't see the parade due to being out of town. Got back in town to watch the game. We're Ute fans...bummer they lost!

My DH watched the parade. I only saw it in passing as I was trying to get stuff done. He did not seem to happy with it either.

I love the marching bands. As for the floats, I heard there were 40 (or thereabouts) this year. That was enough. If it was fewer than usual - and I don't know that it was - I suppose there were fewer companies willing to make the commitment this year. (In a similar vein, QVC didn't sponsor the West Chester Christmas Parade this year.)
Aside... It seems like every float wins an award or trophy. The awards begin to feel like participation trophies. But, of course, it would be a shame not to receive some sort of official recognition after putting so much time, effort, and $$$ into making a float.

I had heard that the flowers made it there; unfortunately, many of those who work to create the floats were stranded because of all the holiday travel delays.

The Penn State Blue Band was awesome!

I cannot believe I completely forgot about it. This is the only parade I usually watch and it never even occurred to me. Agree, the bands are of next to no interest to me, I watch for the floats. As for ads, they've taken over and virtually ruined just about every aspect of television. Moreover, they're often stupid, insulting and pushing an agenda that is also of next to no interest to me.

There probably wasn't as many floats this year because
they were saying that one float cost between $150,000
and $350,000. Who can afford to do that?

I didn't watch, but I think the Rose Parade was sponsered by Honda.
