Riverdance, animated on Netflix

All of my grandchildren have watched this and most of my children.

We share a love of the original Riverdance, my youngest would dance through out the music.

I did like so much the music, the dancing, the story and the hope after the grief of loss but was thinking why do Disney and so many children's movies must portray death? It was very sad at points.

I know why-it is real life and maybe they think they are helping portray this always part of life. And trying to help kids deal with it all.

But sometimes sometimes! I wish that for one "brief shining moment", we could have a movie without having to try to "help" children and us too deal with the reality of life. After all we have to deal with it here in real life and a movie is not going to walk into our house and help us deal with the real thing.

Maybe it is a good thing, I don't know-I just sometimes think oh great we have to have someone die everytime. I'll try not to cry and enjoy the movie. And the kids are sad too. Maybe just wait til someone does die and then show them the movie instead of introducing all these deaths before they have to deal with them. And I guess that is our job as parents and grandparents too. Just know that most all big children's movies these days seem to have to install that someone dies to "help" kids deal with the realities.

It's not really fair, just like death never is either and memories don't replace missing someone.

Some movies and things help with grief and some don't.

So long post not short!, I guess this is a movie worth watching if you and your children! can get past the very sad parts.

Re: Riverdance, animated on Netflix

Never in a million years did I think the original Riverdance was about death and dying and grief.  For me watching it so many years ago was pure joy.

Maybe I'm naive?

Were they trying to reimagine or reinvent it when they made the animated version?

@CelticCrafter,

I don't know either. I never equated anything about the original with anything the animated was showing. I think it was just a totally new fantasy story with this new animated one.

Now, maybe I should look at what the meaning of the original Riverdance is. I just know we always loved the music and the dance too!

Re: Riverdance, animated on Netflix

To me, the original Riverdance was about how we are all connected, using dance as an example.
