The Veteran Cosmic Rocker (Long Distance Voyager album) passed on January 4, 2018.

At least, Ray knew they made it into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. I don't think he was going to attend the ceremony due to health. I loved his voice, RIP...

@Nomore  Oh, thank you for posting this - I didn't know and I'm a great MB fan.  I have seen them many times in concert with Ray, although he had retired from the group quite a few years ago and another floutist was taking his place (I''ve seen a woman floustist with the group a few times).  His flute-playing added much to the songs, and the group was never quite the same without him.  So sorry to learn of his passing.

Thanks for posting, @Nomore.

Lots of memories of "Nights In White Satin", love, anticipation, wonder, blissful optimism of things to come. Youth truly is wasted on the young.

Godspeed Mr Thomas.

@deedledeedeedle  I can attest that Thomas' departure from the group didn't really do harm to it.  The two "mandatories" are Hayward and Lodge.   Kinda like Lennon/McCartney being the crux of the Beatles.

Re: Ray Thomas of Moody Blues

I couldn't believe the Moody Blues had not already been inducted years ago. I voted for the MB's and the Zombies everyday until the voting closed in Nov. or Dec. I think I saw the MB's 3 times over the years. I'm so glad he knew that they had finally gotten inducted. RIP.

@deedledeedeedle  My sentiments exactly.  Oh what memories,  mine is "Tuesday Afternoon" ...to be young again, youth truly is wasted on the young....

Re: Ray Thomas of Moody Blues

I hadn't heard.  "Our Guessing Game" and "Nice to Be Here" just popped into my head.

Godspeed.

Re: Ray Thomas of Moody Blues

@Pearlee and all

Norda is the flautist now and she does a great job. I think Ray's voice rounded out the entire sound. When they've used girl backups in concert, the low sounds from Ray's voice were missed, too many higher pitched voices.

Ray retired about 2001 and I'm glad I got to see him perform in that tour. His last song he wrote as a Moody was a little ditty he had for his granddaughter on Strange Times.

Justin's music is the most meaningful with the thoughts he gives, seems like everything has more than one meaning.  Can you tell I am a fan? Lol. Since I was 10. I'm the one who stops in a store and listens to a Moody song when played.

About a week ago when I found out what happened, I saw a pic of him in the studio from last year or so, recording.  He looked good.
