I really questioned Tessa's starting with her telling Christian her vision at Mood all the way up to the runway show, especially the part about her carrying a flour sack on the runway.  But, I ended up liking hers the best, whether it is forward-looking or not.  Like I said earlier, I don't do gaming, never have, so I don't kow what was, or is in the gaming world except what I've seen on TV shows which would be more like Garo's model, literally, which is not what they wanted.

I don't do gaming either.  All we had to do -- and more important, all the designers had to do -- was listen to the industry innovators/execs/professors they brought in to talk to the designers and one of whom judged.  They were very clear about why they chose their careers and the various ways they are dedicated to bring about change in the gaming industry and what they wanted to see from the PR designers.

ETA:  While I'm fixing one of my  ubiquitious typos, did you see the post above yours?  For next week?  To me the words read like a Mad Libs LOL.

Loved Tessa's flower girl...but what was her superpower?? I missed that if she revealed it.
I liked her use of organic, natural wool...but @LoriLori I know nothing about video games, so didn't realize that could have been a character from the SIMS video games years ago.
I hated Hester's, but I see your point that it was the most modern of all the choices.
I agree that the right contestant went home.
Hungover from too much holiday chocolate and carbs, so sorry if I can't offer any further wisdom here!

Cali, glad you had enough holiday for us both.  Ours was canceled due to illness which is why I had time to watch and take notes LOL.  Tessa's character was The Miller's Daughter, thus the sack of flour.  Not sure in what way but she said it was an homage to her father.

Re: Project Runway 4/18 - Back to Bravo! Spoilers

@LoriLori
Oh friend, I'm sorry illness cancelled your holiday!
Thank you...that makes sense about Tessa's design...she said her family name was Miller. The Miller's Daughter is a love poem by Tennyson, and The Miller's Tale is Chaucer, but neither character has any particular strength or power.
I guess she could use her sack of flour to hit her enemies.
I thought I hated this episode, but after reading the great commentary here, I actually see many layers to the female empowerment challenge...and video games DO have a huge influence on the teenage boys who are their number one consumers, so creating positive women video characters is a very sound idea.
Dare I say it follows along the lines of creating body-positive and strong female characters in porn films, which are also aimed at a young male audience?

@MarnieRez3

Thanks and glad your holidays were so great.

Also glad the discussion got your wheels turning to where now you like the challenge.  I loved it.

LOL I was thinking that too, she hits them with her sack of flour.  I checked around and can't find the superpower.  In time.  She could feed the hungry.  I'm making that up but I like it.

How does it translate to porn?  Intrigued.

@LoriLori, actually, no I did not see your comment above mine.  Looks like it was posted while I was typing mine.  I think I actually got up and had to do something in the middle of typing it too, so it took me awhile to actually post that comment.

Elegant pasties?  Why would she make a design that couldn't be sold at the flash sale? And, I knew when I saw "corset" it would be another Garo design.  He could get sent home over that, but the judges need to warn contestants about doing the same thing over and over even though it took Anya all the way to the bank.  I actually like corsets, but he shouldn't be doing them every week.  He needs to branch out.

@Icegoddess  ITA.  Hester seems like she's thumbing her nose with her immunity but as you point out:  editing.  Anyway Christian's reactions are priceless.  As usual.

Re: Project Runway 4/18 - Back to Bravo! Spoilers

OMG! She feeds the hungry! That is the best and most compassionate superpower yet. I'm sticking with it. Love it!
Back in the day, a similar female-empowerment movement emerged in the home video industry, specifically addressing male-centered porn. Since most of the very first adult home video entertainment companies, owned by men, and largely based in the San Fernando Valley of California, featured women in submissive poses whose primary purpose was to please men, a group of women entrepreneurs started creating adult entertainment that featured men pleasuring women and women being depicted as confident in their own sexuality. It was considered radical at the time, but grew into more mutual and partner-centric adult entertainment being made and released to the home video market.
I sort of get your complaints about Garo's outfit, as that dominatrix image IS a very old stereotype of female empowerment. Which is why I love the flour girl.. she feeds the hungry but dresses simply and in a non-provocative manner. She's kind, lovely, demure...but make no mistake, she WILL rule the land.
I guess the older video games featured more hyper-feminine images like Garo's in which women were highly sexualized and dressed in tough gear to be seen as strong. I believe the judge on the end said as much, as you correctly mentioned above.

Sorry all for run-on, oblique sentences filled with euphanisms! Trying to answer your query @LoriLori using language/concepts appropriate for this forum!
Oh the places we go on this thread! Madness! Project Runway gets us going! 😄
