TCM will be showing this movie at 12:30 am. This movie is on often but not a commercial free station.  Have a good night.

@Coquille

The movie is very good.  Heartily recommend reading the novel...so much more to the story.

Biggest benefit:  the enjoyment inherent in Pat Conroy’s use of the English language.  I hated finishing the book !!!

If you want another one, try his Beach Music.

@Oznell Hi! If you feel like it, (you are the expertise in reviewing or explaining the movies) please, it's all yours. I was going to add this comment to my original post but didn't want to be pushy. Have a good night.

An excellent film.  Nolte should have won an Oscar for his performance.

Streisand's son did a surprisingly good acting job in this film too.

Jeroen Krabbe - so handsome!  Love Nolte dangling the violin out the window.

Often the book is better than the movie, here the movie is good, the book is better.

With books the reader can be inside character’s heads.

Feel their emotions deeper.

I very much enjoy Pat Conroy’s work.

I discovered Conroy's books while we had a downturn in work in the late 80s early 90s.  We started a book library in our coat closet at our law firm and just traded books to pass the time.

I really loved this book and I think Barbra Streisand did a great job of telling a very very very long story with a lot of characters in movie length.  I watch the movie every time it's on.  It's beautifully written, beautifully acted and beautiful to watch.

And I highly recommend the soundtrack.

Looking back at the 1992 Oscars, it was up against Silence of the Lamb and a few other big movies.

Well even though it started at 12:30 I got caught up in in ... always liked

this movie ...glad I caught it .... Have always been a Nick Nolte fan ..

this film was nominated for 7 Academy Awards ....and I did not realize

that Barbara was the director ....Seeing it has prompted me to want

to read the book again ....

So many layers of emotions to peel away ....from all the characters .....

Oh, @Coquille, what a nice compliment, but please don't EVER feel constrained about puttting your own detailed alerts out there!

I would love to see 'em!  My reviews are just impressions, like anyone's-- don't claim any expertise, ha.

I've only seen "Prince of Tides" once, and for some reason it is vague in my mind.  I remember liking those Carolina sunsets, and think Nolte was quite good in it.  Pat Conroy is a writer worth reading, for sure.

Glad you and the others enjoyed it!

Excellent, it was robbed of so many well deserved Oscars.

Streisand looked beautiful in this one, Nolte was wonderful. I cry every time I see it. Lowenstein, Lowenstein!!
