'Personal Injury Court' tv show

I was just wondering if anyone has been watching the new court show called "Personal Injury Court."  It's *not* for small claims with some cases even seeking over a $1,000,000!  The show is quite intriguing, and it's even educational Smiley Happy  This one woman sued a homeowner for when she was trying to fry a turkey, and the homeowner told her to place a can in the cauldron of hot water.  (She placed a filled can in there.)  It, unfortunately, exploded and she suffered 2nd degree burns.  The homeowner (defendent) was found liable.  It's on the CW on weekdays.

I watched two episodes. It's all re-enactments using actors.

Re: 'Personal Injury Court' tv show

I was flipping channels the other day & this show was on & had a guy that was suing a radio station because they ran a prank to award someone $250K if they got the call letters of the station (I think it was KRUD-lol!) tatooed on their forehead.

This guy, who didn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed, did it because his parents were about to lose their home.  I think he said he lived in his parent's basement & looked to be in his 30's (yikes!).  He got the tattoo & then, the station said it was an April Fool's prank & refused to pay him, so he was suing for $525K or something in that region, because he needed to get the tat removed from his forehead.

The judge awarded him the amount he sued for.

I might have to watch this one, I love all the court shows too!

BTW, they have to be reenactments, LOL, they cannot show the real thing, it's already happened!

I don't think we get that in my area.  There isn't much educational value to it because it's a TV entertainment show, they have to keep it interesting and it's not a real court.  Also, laws differ from state to state; county to county.  What applies in one place might not apply somewhere else.  Not to say that it isn't fun to watch for people who enjoy those types of shows.

I just looked online and a website mentioned that it is semi-scripted.  The cases are taken from actual court cases.  I'm surprised that the one plaintiff, who was proved to be a fake or embellished injury, would risk looking like a fraud on national tv just to get paid for acting Smiley Happy

If or when the incident is shown in real time, it's usually from video surveilance tape retreived or camera phone.

It can be informative though, such as realizing that even suggesting one's house guest doing something that results in his or her injury, might result in the homeowner being held liable or responsible (such as the woman that suffered burns at her neighbors' house from trying to fry a turkey).
