It was already discussed in another thread. It wasn't Siriano's idea. He just took it to a more refined and elevated level.
I'm sure they both knew about Hector Xtravaganza in the below picture.

I agree with him. And he didn't wear it for shock value or publicity, he explains the reasons in the article.
The way he walked & carried himself..and posed with that long train....
I would bet you could throw a stick & hit a couple dozen women
who couldn’t present it like that.

Not offended or shocked by the gown, or by the fact that it’s being worn by a man. Don’t feel the need to call anyone names, not that there is ever the need, but it does seem to be SO much the done thing right now.
I like new and unusual, but this gown, the gown it’s self just doesn’t move me. It doesn't surprise, or delight, it doesn’t move any markers, or inspire me to think in a new way.
Too bad , wish it did.

I'm so tired of the attempt at making men girly....dresses, skirts, he-hive, man-bun. "They" are trying to normalize it....it isn't.
Skirts, dresses and buns on men are a couple of millennia old and across many cultures and countries.

The more I look at the Tux-Gown, the more I love it.
Billy Porter's red carpet fashion statement was just that. The impact served multi purposes. One, to get him attention, two, to show off Christian Siriano's design
and three, to quote Billy Porter:
"The idea that someone should fit a certain mold or they’re deemed unworthy is a practice that is long outdated."
Another interesting look was by production designer, Hannah Beachler, who wore a face adornment by Douriean who created the jewelry worn in Black Panther.

Not very masculine -- actually it looks rather foolish, odd and girly on a man?!

I wonder what "Beth" said that was so rude that they removed the post. I might not like something that someone has said, but I try not to be rude about anything!

To Each His Own.......but a dress/gown on a man, sorry not for me.

I don't think Billy did it for shock value - just because others are shocked by it. From an interview from that day
As we all know through time and other cultures - Why do we deem some are acceptable and others are silly or ridiculous? If someone wasn't being silly or ridiculous- I would be wearing petticoats and a hopped skirt. Thank goodness for the first manly shock seeking women to don on pants.
